Today is january 31st

So why is that day special? a year ago in 2015(I find it hard to believe it's 2016) on january 31st I left fb and started my long, dedicated job hunt. I vividly remember going to some yard sales on feb 1st and dunkin donuts and job hunting.

It was a long year that culminated this month with me getting a job. I learned just how much fb sucks away your time like a time vampire. Also it's easier to be independent and you have more freedom in life when you don't have the anxiety of checking fb every 3 minutes.

I highly recommend people go offline from fb for at least a month or 2. At first it's hard but it gets easier

I been sick the past 2 days so I can now post about the xfiles

Ok I think it started on saturday when my neighbor burned firewood. However this was really strong firewood that smelled even in my room where I had the windows closed. It felt like I was in his fireplace. I think all that smoke gave me a cough on monday and I felt really sore with no energy,that got a little bit better today. It's like I have a smoker's cough(I don't smoke)

I took some thermaflu tea yesteday and today among with eating 2 spoons of pure honey which is making me feel better.  So now onto the x-files which I was supposed to post yesterday.


The show feels just like how it did in the 90's and like no time has passed well sorta. There was a rush to mention uber and use smartphones and a modern laptop and of course dana and fox have aged but it's all relative.

There was subtle hints at the show's past such as the girl who had alien dna(which scully has since she was abducted before) The ufo crash in roswell being used to aid our technology is a nice touch. The sensational talk show web host is great. I really thought his show was an act when he revealed to mulder the ufo that was created from alien technology.

The 2nd episode I don't remember much of but it is extremely gruesome. 2 men stab a knife in their ears and a mother cuts her stomach open so she can let her baby out. Also a man's eyes burst so he bleeds out of his eye sockets. The story was pretty good even if it had an xmenish vibe.

Apparently mutations in kids might be proof that humanity is going through a period of advanced evolution which the kinks are still being sorted out. I'll watch that episode later on tonight. I look foward to more episodes next week

The x-files returns tonight

The guide for verizon fios has it listed as season 10(I believe, this is off the top of my head) and it's supposed to be a mini season. Anyways I am excited because I have found memories of turning off the tv at 9pm on sundays and then being unable to go to sleep because my dad is watching it.

It'll be almost like when I was a little kid only it won't be. The new episode premires after the NFC championship game ends and there will be a 2nd new episode tomorrow at 9pm,

It looks like the 1st episode is about a ufo crash so I am excited to see it and the 3rd episode seems to be about a wolfwere(see what I did there). Hopefully the show continues then expands onto 2 or 4 full seasons

Retro fridays and be kind please rewind stickers

Remember when these were everywhere? I used to hate when I rented a video from hollywood video and I would get home and open the case and......it was at the end so I had to put it in the vcr or the cool race car rewinder then wait for it to finish.

Every tape regradless of where you got it from, had the little sticker telling you to be kind please rewind. Sometimes it was even stuck on the dvds which probably lead to a lot of panicked calls about how a dvd  could be rewound

I was always kind and always rewound my movies just to be considerate

Retro fridays and the club

No I don't a club, I'm talking THE club. You know, the metal stick thing that attaches to a car's steering wheel. It used to be everywhere in the 90's and by everywhere I mean on lots of cars, it's not like people walked around with a club in hand. I still seem them but it's very rare when I do

I'm not sure why but when I see the bright red club I picture vanilla ice. Anyways the club saw less and less use because of how sophisticated car keys and ignitions have become. It used to be that as long as the key fit, your engine would start. Now cars don't even have a physical key.

I need update the info under my headline

As I already have a job so I can't post about my journey to getting one. Yes it was a long journey and it's over and I'm happy to be working. It took a lot of luck and some skill to get my current job. If I didn't know photography or photoshop I would not be working.

It took a lot of luck because I was one of the first applicants and there was a lot that came after me and yes they were a lot more qualified then me. 

I been unemployed for years so I am proof that their is light at the end of the tunnel

The X-Files returns in a week

Because things from the 90's are coming back and surprise! so is the x-files. It'll be just like when I was little and I would turn off the tv at 9pm to go to bed and my dad would watch the x-files. The music would always creep me out and I'm sure it will still creep me out now that I'm not a kid anymore.

I hope this isn't just a one time mini season and gets expanded onto 2 or 4 full seasons. I'm not sure if it'll be monster of the week episodes or continue the main arc but I'm just glad to be watching new episodes of the x-files on sundays at 9pm(just like in the 90's)

Product placement for my my job

Yes I work at a place that sells waterpipes and no I don't smoke. Buy this 15 inch waterpipe with a cool skull with a pink bow on it. It's a good price and it's well made.

Retro saturdays and banjo tooie

Banjo tooie is the sequel to banjo kazooie(get it? tooie) which came out in the year 2000 for the n64. The hub world is easily the biggest of any game from the 32/64 bit era and dwarf the size from banjo kazooie. There are more levels then bk and each one is bigger(although more confusing)

The levels end up making your head hurt because each one is interconnected to 2 or 3 or more levels so you might see a jiggy that you can't reach but then you forget about it then it's racks your brain trying to get it. It still is an enjoyable game and I like that once you pick up a music note piece then it's permanently in your possession even if you leave the level

I got the strategy guide for bt for $1 from kb toys because it was closing forever therefore my last memory of kb toys is of banjo tooie

Retro fridays and game gear

The game gear was sega's answer to the nintendo gameboy, it is a backlit color handheld system that completely blew away the gameboy(at least if you only count raw power). However sega's game library couldn't touch the gameboy's variety of good games.

Also it was a battery hog and was huge but lets not dwell on the negatives. For it's time, the graphics were amazing and the fact that you could play in the dark was a huge plus. I got one in 2003 among with sonic 2 which seems to be the most common game.

Retro fridays and donkey kong land 3

Donkey kong land 3 is pretty special to me as it was my 1st gameboy game I got. I also got it with an extreme green gameboy pocket which I'll mention in another post. Anyways the graphics are really good for a gameboy game even if there's no color.

The gameplay is tight as the physics are straight from the snes donkey kong country 3. Obviously there aren't as many levels but the spirit of it's console big brother is still there with the wide variety of stages. The map isn't free roam but it still gets the job done.

The music is great especially for the gameboy and I strongly remember going to huntington park to the pacific and playing dkl3 while my mom browsed the stores.

I still have my childhood copy which I treasure very much and now I'm tempted to play it

2016 has been good so far

What a difference a year makes. Last year I was struggling to even get an interview at this time and now I have a job. No this doesn't mean I'll stop this blog. I'll keep it going. Anyways I think I am going through the paying my dues part of life. On the way home I walk1 mile to get to the bus stop then I get off after a certain distance then walk well I'm not sure the distance but it is easily more then half a mile.

I walk this to get to another bus which leaves me 0.7 of a mile from my house. I am saving up for a vespa style motorcycle/scooter. However I would have to get an M1 license which I didn't realize. I can also keep saving for a 90's mustang but that would take longer.

Yes it does get tiring doing all that walking, btw that is the fastest route home. I do this all by myself and I don't have friends that could offer me a ride. Although I do have a job and it is what I wanted. So each day I'll suck it up and ignore my aching feet because I know it wont be long before I am driving home from work

So I actually do have a job

Yes after all my job hunting and frustration and hopelessness, I have a job. I legitimately thought I was never going to get one then I see an ad on CL and here I am now. I forgot to mention in my last post but with the 2 buses I'll take to get home, I'll end up arriving around 2 hours after I get out(rough estimate).

So I am going to save my money for a vespa style scooter unless I can somehow find one for around $150. Anyways I also returned to facebook since looking at people's job titles no longer frustrates me or makes me feel hopeless.

I most likely got a job

Ok let's recap: on thursday I went to an interview and I did really well so well that I got an email last saturday night. It said to come in on monday(tomorrow) from 9am to 3pm(6hours) so I most likely got a job buttttt like all new hirees, if I don't do well then I wont last long. I am familar with the style so I am confident I will do great.

I originally left facebook on jan 31st 2015 because I wanted to focus on getting a job and reading people's job titles on bummed me out. All it did was frustrate me when I compared myself to others. I'll wait till later on next week before I'm sure or not if I'll return to fb.

Hopefully this means the end of my long journey and not to sound too full of it but I deserve this. I been job hunting for years(even longer then when I created this blog in summer 2014) and I got this job all by myself. No connections or someone putting in a good word for me, I simply replied to a CL job ad and sold myself(not literally)

Fridays haven't felt so retro ever since the calender turned to 2016

Saturdays too for that matter, I believe it's because I'm so focused on getting a job(especially this one at ary distribution) that the past fridays and saturdays haven't felt very retro.

I do intend to keep retro fridays as I still have a lot of songs/toys/food/bands/cars to talk about. With that said, I really do miss TGIF fridays, it's a shame no major public network has decided to schedule a friday night block

My interview yesterday was the best one I had

Ok let me start off with that it wasn't a typical interview in a typical retail breakroom. It was in a room where I was introduced to the other employees then shown around and how things are run. The interviewer was young and friendly. I was asked questions about my life as I was shown the products.

It wasn't a sit down 1 on 1 interview so I was at ease and shooting the breeze. From what the owners told me and the questions they asked, this is the greatest chance to actually getting a job. I'll start off with when they asked me what my schedule was like and what method of payment would be best.

They both said they liked me because I have already have experience selling on ebay and taking similar style photos. I was told there was another person being interviewed that day but things were looking good for me and I would get an email either today or this weekend.

I don't want to jinx myself so I'll say I really hope I get this job

This year is already going too fast

It feels like christmas eve was yesterday ok well realistically it feels like it was last week and now it's the 6th of january. I'm going to put all my effort into the interview tomorrow then I'll work on my minecraft town some more.

By town I mean my survival mode file in which I really need to take pictures. Today I explored a desert mine and found a lot of coal blocks and part of the ceiling collapsed when I placed a torch because it was all sand.

I'll post the seed tomorrow or on friday in case you want to try it out yourself. One of these days I should invite people to play online. I don't have any real life friends that play minecraft pe so I would have to invite random internet strangers which would also leave me at risk to have my houses destroyed(I have 6 of them all over) and my mines would be raided

Just like that I have an interview

I applied as a photo taker/editor/website description writer for a company that produces tobacco pipes well I did this last month. I got an email that I would be a great fit so I set up an interview for thursday afternoonish. So I went from being hopeless to being positive for this opportunity which I intend to do well.

I been sick the past 2.5 days, it started off with minor strep throat to full blown strep throat to quickly moving onto a stuffed up nose. It's not as bad as earlier or last night but I just want my nose to get back to normal. It would be great if I ended up getting a call for mom365 for another interview because job interviews are just like ex's in that when you get one, the other one wants you too.

Ok I worded that wrong and that is a horrible analogy but you get the idea. When you can't have someone it's when you want them most

Job hiring seems to be on vacation

I checked CL and I felt like peggy bundy does with Al(you'll get it if you seen married with childern) as it was really barren. Scott pilgrim vs the world has a scene where scott is dreaming he's in a desert where ramona flowers rollarblades by. That's how it was like searching the job section on CL.

Maybe I'll have better luck this upcoming week but in the meantime I have really taken off on minecraft pe. I got horribly lost in survival mode for the 4th time so I started a new game and tried out various seeds such as xnxx,super pig and vvvvvv.

I wasn't happy with the easyness of seeds therefore I generated a random world that left me pretty happy. I spawned in what is best described as a savanna but it gets better just like an infomercial, there is the ocean to my left and to my immediate front is a small forest of trees.

Past the trees is a desert which I only explored the mine close to it. To my right is a small lake with more trees and a wide area of flat grass. I have built 4 houses throughout the areas I explored and I currently building one near the base of a huge mountain.

To avoid getting lost, I have build various small landmarks by which I put 3 wood blanks and 2 tourches on the top block so it kinda looks like the judas priest logo

Kids today wont understand pirated cable

Note I did not have cable at all growing up(legal or illegal wise) but  like anyone in the 90's, we all knew someone that had the magic box as we called it. The gist of that box was that it would descramble encrypted channels then played them on the tv. So with this box you could watch all the cable channels and ppv for free.

I think they stopped working with the switch to digital tv in the mid 00's but it is nice to reminisce about a time when you could pay a man to install a special box with lots of channels. In today's world, companies have gotten smarter and it is not as easy as buying a box from a sketchy person.

But then again it is easier to find any movie or tv on the internet so there is that

I need to update my headline

It is now 2016 so my headline failed which also is disheartening since I made this blog in summer 2014 and I am still unemployed. On tuesday or wedesnday or it might have been monday, I got a call from the recruiter from mom365. He asked me if I heard back from the interviewer and I said no I haven't. He said I should have because they are hiring and I am qualified.

He said he was going to get in contact with her and then he call me. So the recruiter went to bat for me and I hope this leads to a job offer.
