So it's down to this, all of those hours spent watching the wonder years and the end is in sight. These 2 episodes are both the end of season 6 and the series and fred savage's career(I kid) and these wonder years blog entries. I'm not sure what I'll watch next, maybe random episodes of the simpsons?(I have the 1st 20 seasons) or goosebumps the tv show(I have all the episodes) or MMPR(I also have all the episodes). So I'll get onto the show
The 1st episode starts off with kevin quiting his job at the factory his dad now owns, yes he got heard overnight in the show and it wasn't seen onscreen. He's had enough of his dad and his friends are planning on a road trip to nowhere. Sadly he doesn't go with them and chuck and giovani ribisi leave him behind(which is also a metaphor for fred savage's acting career). Kevin goes off on his own to the hotel/pool where winnie works as a lifeguard. I should mention that the first 5 mins or so are of kevin and winnie awkwardly sitting in a car at makeout point while she does or doesn't break up with him. Ok back to the story, she gets him a job as a waiter and he wins some money playing poker with the other waiters. They can't see each other much(winnie and kevin) because of how busy they are. One night fate decides to give kevin and the viewers one last scene of hearbreak to end the show. Kevin wins big money at a poker game and goes to tell winnie because apparently he can't go on without telling her about the money. He finds her making out with a tall blonde surfer guy then you can almost feel his heart breaking and the episode ends
The 2nd part picks up where the previous one left off, kevin gets mad and in his rage he bets all his money and his car then fate lovingly has him lose it all. Like a tv infomercial, wait there's more! kevin punches the guy winnie kissed then quits his job and has to hitch hike home. On the road, kevin is pitched up by a nice elderly couple who also picked up winnie cooper because that's how fate works for kevin. She got fired because of what he did(I don't know how that works either) and they get into a huge argument that gets them kicked out of the car(no not while it's moving). Fate keeps haunting kevin so of course it starts to rain and they take shelter in a barn. They talk about how they have changed and they will probably not end up together as a couple, winnie doesn't want their childhood relationship to end and kevin busts out this great quote and they start kissing. It is implied they had sex but only the writers know. "Once upon a time, there was a girl I knew, who lived across the street.
Brown hair, brown eyes. When she smiled, I smiled. When she cried, I
cried. Every single thing that ever happened to me that mattered, in
some way had to do with her. That day, Winnie and I promised each other
that no matter what, that we'd always be together. It was a promise full
of passion and truth and wisdom. It was the kind of promise that can
only come from the hearts of the very young"
If the show would have ended there that would have been good too but it keeps going. The next day they show up at the 4th of july parade holding hands. This scene is shot in uptown whittier aka my hometown. Paul is there and so is kevin's family(I don't remember if karen was there) then narrator kevin tells us what happened to everyone. His dad died pretty soon, paul went to harvard then became a lawyer, karen had a son that year who looks like kevin, his mom became a board chairman, wayne took over the family business after jack died 2 years later. Winnie went to art school in paris and here is where the waterworks start. Kevin was there to meet winnie at the airport when she returned although he brought along his wife and son. But wait there's more! kevin and jack are at the garage just chatting about him becoming a grandpa. The camera pans out while narrator kevin says this quote “Growing up happens in a heartbeat. One day you’re in diapers, the next
day you’re gone. But the memories of childhood stay with you for the
long haul.”
We hear a little boy ask the narrator if he could play with him so he agrees with "I'll be right there" and the show ends just like that. A lot of people thought kevin should have gotten married to winnie so they could have a happy ending but this show is about being realistic and life doesn't always work out the way you want it to. Kevin even mentions it with "life doesn't always turn out the way you want it" Yes others will feel gyped out that they watched a lot of episodes only to have it end that way. I found a video of the parade scene and it also has the ending too. Watch it and have some tissues close by
