Retro saturdays and goosebumps:the curse of the mummy's tomb

The curse of the mummy's tomb is what the title is stating, there is a curse on a mummy's tomb so I'm glad that plot got out of the way. Main characters gabe and his sister who I forgot her name visit their uncle in cairo then they go exploring in some pyramids. While fooling around, gabe accidentally hits a secret panel and runs into a secret room containing the mummy they were looking for. Of course since it has a curse and this is a goosebumps book, it comes to life and becomes the bad guy of the book

I don't remember how it ends only that it had a happy ending and the mummy is either burned or it gets put back to sleep so it sets up the sequel. One of my biggest fears is a mummy coming back to life and this book only confirmed it

Retro saturdays and goosebumps:one day at horrorland

One day at horrorland has one of my favorite goosebumps covers(among with the deep trouble books and the haunted school and monster blood 4 and others) simply because of how kreepy and inviting it is. I always thought the horror that was holding onto the sign was real and not some sort of fake plastic monster but that's the way a kid's mind works. The book is about a bee ok I kid, it's obviously about a theme park but not a boring haunted by ghosts theme park but one run by real monsters called horrors. The morris family gets lost on the way to zoo gardens and they find horrorland and of course they go in because well what else are they going to do and they might as well make the most of it

All the rides are off in a dangerous sort of way and to make a long story short, the morris family escapes the theme park but there is a slight twist ending. This book was always extremely popular to rent at the library so they had 4 or 6 copies and I always saw them when I would walk in. I never owned the book until 2007 but I am glad I have a piece of my childhood nostalgia

Retro fridays and goosebumps: deep trouble 2

Deep trouble 2 is the sequel to deep trouble so of course there isn't much else to do with the previous book because that's how sequels work in goosebumps books. If you haven't read the 1st book it's ok because main character billy recaps the 1st book and it's not important as it has no plot bearing. Anyways the book is about billy's uncle making a plankton that causes things to grow extremely huge and all innuendo aside, he feeds it to some goldfish that grow to the size of a make shark. Of course we can't have nice things so there's a counter scientists group that is evil and tries to steal the plankton for themselves to cure world hunger because bigger fish equals more food for everyone

It of course ends with a happy ending and sometimes goes out to left field. I remember my mom getting me this book at super kmart among with the haunted school and I thought the cover was so neat. I would also get ghost camp and tripleheader #1 a few days later so it was a good week for me that week back in 1997

Retro fridays and goosebumps: ghost camp

Ghost camp is the one goosebumps book that I have a lot of nostalgia for. I remember my mom getting it for me at super kmart(which is now a target) among with tripleheder #1 and I was extremely happy that I got 2 books. Of course I would read it and re-read it over the years and I know the story pretty well. 2 brothers get sent off to a summer cap and like every camp in the goosebumps universe of course it is haunted by ghosts. They tell ghost stories and strange things happen like a girl putting her hand through a camp fire without any effects and there's those weird puddles at the foot of the beds(yes feel free to make jokes) and it turns out everyone is a ghost

I would day dream and fill out the order form on the back and I still have that childhood book, the funny thing is that now I have all the books I "ordered" back in 1997

Retro fridays and mcdonalds halloween pails

Mcdonalds brought back that overrated sauce this year(which I actually tried when it 1st came out so I know) and every year around october I hope that mcdonalds brings back the halloween buckets with the boo buddies as they are called. I been looking and looking throughtout the years at yard sales and swap meets and thrift stores and haven't seen one yet. I have hope that I will find one at goodwill and that mcdonalds will some day bring them back. Yes I know they do have different pails each year as a few years ago they had charlie brown ones but it's not the same

Something about the buckets give me that certain halloween nostalgia of trick or treating with my friends and comparing candy

Retro fridays and the simpsons treehouse of horror 1

The simpsons have an annual halloween episode that started with treehouse of horror in season 2 and it still continues to this day and year. The 1st treehouse of horror was groundbreaking for setting the standards of tv show halloween episodes and it's pretty good as a stand alone episode without any knowledge of the show itself. When I was little I used to watch the simpsons after I did my homework for that night. It got me in the halloween spirit and I wanted to go trick or treating. Anyways the 1st treehouse of horror is split into 3 segments like the rest of the treehouse episodes so....

There is an intro with bart, lisa and maggie telling scary stories in the treehouse and homer listening outside

The 1st part is a spoof of poltergeist where the simpsons move into a house that was built on a indian burial ground, the 2nd one is where the simpsons get kidnapped by aliens and introduce us to kang and kodos. The last one is a spoof of the raven by edgar allan poe with bart as the raven and homer as the main character

The episode ends with homer being scared and he goes to bed and marge turns off the lights and we see the bart raven outside in a tree. If you never seen it you should give it a view

I was able to get a snes classic earlier this week when gamestop had it in stock

I missed the boat when walmart and target and other stores stocked it because I'm saving money to get a lexus gs but I got an alert on wednesday or thursday of this week that gamestop had the snes classic(I don't call it mini) in stock so I clicked on the link and tried ordering one because I figured they would be sold out and I wouldn't get one as what happened the other times I tried to get one. So I added it into my cart and went to check out, so far so good and I went to payment which surprised me that it was still in stock. I autofilled my information such as address then got my card and payed and clicked check out

I expected to get an error message or this item is no longer available but what actually happened is...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................my purchase was successfully completed and I was the owner of a snes classic and gamestop would send me an email when it gets shipped out. I got said email yesterday or it might have been 2 days ago and I get my snes classic next week. I thought I missed out and if you did, well nintendo is going to make more of them so don't buy them for $180 on offerup which every seller seems to be doing for some reason and they all mention it's brand new. Maybe I should troll them and offer them mine for $90 and that they could make a profit from it. I will get my snes classic soon and instead I decided to sell the majority of my hot wheels(I'm keeping my 90's ones) and selling all of them from 2002 to 2017 such as the mars rovers, mystery machines, batmobiles, fast and furious cars, star trek enterprises, every bmw and motorcyle from 2013-2017, the beatles yellow sub and many others. If you are interested I can give you a good shipping rate as I mail them in a small light weight box and I have low prices on my hot wheels

I used to have 8 of the games for my actual childhood snes and during my childhood so this was extra nostalgia for me, I sold them because I got frustrated with having to restart my snes 3 or 15 times to get a game to work(I don't miss that) or having a dead battery in my super mario rpg I got from funcoland back in 2000 for $15. I look foward to playing super mario world and yoishi's island a link to the past and super mario kart and super mario rpg. Those are the games I will play the most among with street fighter 2 turbo. I spent many friday and saturday nights into 2010 playing those 5 games while avoiding friends and girls having fun and missing out on the valuable life experience of going out with a girl to the movie theater. But im good at super mario world and things worked out in that I'm still single. Anyways I will treasure my snes classic and possibly hand it down to my sister

Retro saturdays and surge soda

I can't believe I haven't written about surge soda until now as I was a fan of it during it's original run. First off I believe that surge is highly overrated as mr green by sobe was a lot better tasting. I used to go to food 4 less a lot with my parents when I was little and one thing I always did was check out the newest issue of expert gamer but another thing I did was get surge soda. If you never tried it well it tastes like a slightly sweet version of amp energy by mountain dew or like a lot less sweeter version of mountain dew and it was even the same color. Just as quickly as I got into my routine of surge, it was gone from the shelves without warning

I wasn't expecting it and I was crushed but life goes on and I had to manage without my soda so I did. I moved onto brisk iced tea and that was that untill 2016 when surge came back. I couldn't believe it was back and of course I got some and it was just like being a little kid again. Even the modern can looks a lot like the old one and you would have a hard time telling it's from 2017

Retro saturdays and safety scissors

just looking at these scissors takes me back to kindergarten and 1st and 2 grade. They were the scissors of choice for little kids so everyone had to use them at some point in the 90's. What I most remember is how bad they were at cutting, I would get so frustrated with cutting construction paper that I ended up screaming and possibly crying and kicking someone(I'm sorry), as it would just bend the paper and wrinkle it but not cut. There is such as thing as too safe and these were it

What the cool kids would do is place the scissors on construction paper and pour a lot of elmer's glue and let it dry then they would peel it off and have a glue scissor mold. This is why there was always glue residue on them and that also gives me nostalgia

Retro fridays and the ti-108 calculator

If you don't know the model number of this calculator, well it's ok because this was and probably still is the most popular model of calculator in elementary and middle school . Even the little yellow basket/case gives me nostalgia. It was solar powered so there was always some jerk that would cover the little solar panel and lol at you. They were simple and reliable and held up well so schools didn't have to replace many of them

I'm thinking of getting my own for nostalgia's sake

Retro fridays and no fear

I used to see the no fear brand on the back of a lot of kids shirts when I was in lunch line at elementary school and middle school. Every "cool" kid thought it made them edgy and....well.... "cool" to wear it. Usually they had the one with just the logo but the baseball one was extremely popular. It talked about it being the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs and the bases loaded and 2 strikes and it ends with no fear. Maybe because it stopped being cool to wear these shirts but the no fear brand went out of style sometime around 2002 or 2003 and it was quickly forgotten about by boys with spikey bleached blonde hair

The shooting in las vegas last night is extremely depressing

I been saying for years that sundays always suck and go slow and feel lonely and depressing and this had to happen on a sunday. I'm not one to cry easily or cry at all as I couldn't even cry when my grandpa died last year but something about last night's shooting made me want to cry. Maybe it's because so many people went to a concert and to a casino to have a good time without thinking they were going to die or that it might have been the last time they were alive. Death is omni present, for a lot of us we don't give it much thought or the idea of our mortality but death exists in the world. This was an eye opening experience for many and I am glad to still be alive. I will try to donate blood if I meet the weight limit but for now we can only be cautious of when we go to a large public gathering
