Storage wars is a great show

By great I mean it's great entertainment. I been watching it since it premiered and I even watched the texas and new york spin offs. It's good to have dave hester back although I do miss barry. He brings a certain charm and you can tell everyone likes having him around. Sometimes the guys find hot wheels especially darrel and another time he found some micro machines. Yes I do also like brandi and I like how her and jarrod bickle and argue but they still love each other. It's fun seeing dave hester make other people mad and all the jokes darrel and jarrod and barry make. Fun fact, the buyers on the storm episode in whittier was filmed across the street from my house. I literally live across from a storage unit. I have thought of renting a space once I get a job since I can easily cross the street to get to the room. Talk about convenience especially if I decide to use the room for shelter or to sleep in

A quick update on my life

I applied at food 4 less and a ralph's and a comic book/toy/hobby store and edible arrangements(as a delivery driver). As always I hope I get a call back especially edible arrangements.I took a small break to work on homework and type this entry. Tomorrow I'm going to get a haircut (I currently have tom cruise from MI 2 hair) and I'll turn in an application at a 99 cents store and I'll check out the hot wheels. One time I saw a hot wheels car from 1996 just hanging on the pegs. Do 99 cents store accept returns? because I highly doubt they found it in the stock room after all these years

Retro saturdays and squeeze it juice

It's actually called squeezit but it sounds gross when it ends in zit. I used to get a 6 pack and chug it down like nothing. Other times I would share with my neighbor while we jumped bikes off a ramp. Who didn't like to chew on the U shaped cap that easily twists off. That's probably why these stopped being made. I always felt like these were too small and didn't last long. It was worth it for the taste though.

Retro saturdays and pokemon cards

Yep pokemon cards. I remember when they first came out and they spread like bad news throughout the playground. I used to go to the santa fe springs swapmeet on fridays or saturdays to buy 1 or 3 booster packs(usually 2). I collected them until the gym leaders ones came out. I remember charizard was the hot pokemon and I always wanted one. It's sad how little it's worth now. I remember when the jungle expansion came out and it was huge at the swap meet. I would be lucky to be able to buy one pack. At the whittwood mall there was a store called game master. It sold board games and cards. So of course I bought 2 starter decks(60 cards and a coin and paper mat). I still have a few cards (about 5% of my original collection). When I get a job I'll buy a huge lot of cheap pokemon cards on ebay. Just looking at some of the cards takes me back. I do know how to battle with them since I also play the gameboy game

Retro fridays and kb toys

I really miss kb toys. I wish it wasn't dead and it was still around. I used to go to the kb toys that was at the quad and the whittwood mall a lot (not just when I was little either). I used run to the video game section to see the newest games and the tamagotchis. Just looking at the boxes of them takes me back to my childhood. I also loved looking at the hot wheels and wishing I was older so I can buy one of each. I remember one time I got $50 for my bday and I went to the whittwood mall on my bike. I bought: Donkey kong land 2, 3 spice girls lollipops, a seamonkey aquarium, a bag of skittles, raven's powder candy, 3 hot wheels and a video game magazine. I still had money left over but I was extremely happy with my purchase. I wanted to go one time but my mom said it wasn't going anywhere and it would still be there next time I went, well guess what? kb toys went somewhere, it is gone to the big retail store in the sky. I went to the one in la habra right before it closed and it was a sad sight. I felt bad for kb toys and I knew the end was near.

Retro fridays and miller's outpost

I'm not sure why, but I miss miller's outpost a lot even though I only went there twice in my short life. I only remember that they had a big selection of brown pants and that the store smelled like popcorn. I remember always walking by it when the whittwood mall still existed and I wish I could go again as my current self but time travel is not yet invented

The trailer for jurassic world is out

Here's the link. My 8 year old self is marking out and my current self is on a nostalgia trip. I like how the raptors were used as dogs for a race and the shamu style jump although on a much bigger scale. Now I want to see it but I have to wait till next year

My interview went well although...

The interview part went well and I nailed it with no umms or looking down. The interviewee looked at my application and I assume he didn't see any food or cashiering experience and mentally went "lol no". He actually said he was going to be doing interviews for 9 days and he couldn't offer me a job right now. Yes rejection hurts especially since it is only my loss. Anyways I'll assume he didn't want me at all so I'll apply at the 99 cents store on wednesday of next week not tomorrow. I have no hard feelings and I will visit corner bakery cafe when it opens and buy a latte or a panini

I have an interview tomorrow at corner bakery

Yes I went today to fill out a paper application and they were giving out interviews like candy. I had my choice of later on today(I went in the morning) or tomorrow morning. Since me and my dad were going to change the brake pads on the F-150, I decided to come in tomorrow. So at 8:15 am tomorrow I have an interview. Yes I am nervous but also confident because the managers were very friendly and the cafe was inviting. I already thought of 6 questions to ask the interviewee. Tomorrow is also my last day of class this week before thanksgiving break. So yes wish me luck tomorrow as I will need it. I overheard a girl that got a second interview and I hope to be in the same shoes tomorrow as hearing the words 2nd interview will be like Joseph liberman at a monster truck rally

UPDATE: corner bakery is opening tomorrow in whittier and they are hiring

The title is pretty self explanatory. I already applied online but I am going tomorrow to apply in person. I will apply as a cashier and service attendant so yep I need good luck and I will dress up in my nerd look with drew carrey style short sleeve button up shirts. After that, I'll head over to santa fe springs to apply at capriotti's sandwich shop so it will be a busy day of filling out applications. I'll take my lucky nebraska keychain with a penny in it for good luck

Retro saturdays and a micro machines van

I got one of these when I was little as a birthday present among with 2 packs(5 cars each) of micro machines. I would spend every day playing with the micro city and pretending it was an actual city. There was drag races to a mountain and police chases that ended in the river and ambulance visits. I got bored of it and left it outside where it got ruined by the rain. I really regret that because while it is less then $20 to buy another one on ebay, nothing beats your original childhood toys. I saw a van city at the swap meet this past wednesday at a nerdvana post. The guy selling it wanted $110 for 56 MM cars and the van and 3 other city playsets. While a normal person might have a rodney dangerfield type of response, micro machines have gone up in value a lot since the 90's. That is actually a fair price that I would pay if I was working a stable job.

Retro fridays and french toast crunch

This was my favorite cereal back in the late 90's to early 00's. I miss it dearly and the closest thing  to the flavor is golden grahams. Sure the toast piesces got soggy quick but they tasted great. I wish this cereal would be brought back instead of surge

Retro fridays and bubble jug

If your reading this I'm sure you remember this jug. I used to buy the pink lemonade flavor and would chew all of the gum as one big ball. If I didn't do that, the gum would only last me a few hours. That's how yum yum the gum was. I'm not sure if these are still made since I don't pay attention to the candy aisle but I still have the memories.

Retro fridays and a chrysler ad and mercedes benz SL

This ad is from 1993, I like how chrysler just keeps attacking the SL as if that makes you want the lebaron. Ironically both of them are worth the same today. The $106 K for the SL is in 1993 money which is $171 K in today's money. For that much $$ you can get a SL 55 or 63 or possibly 65 and blow away it's forefather. It just goes to show you how much mercedes benz cars used to cost back then and how much bang you get for your buck nowadays

Capriotti's and jamba juice are hiring

I went to el pollo loco in santa fe springs(which has a big now hiring banner). The capriotti's has a sign on the window saying they accept applications inside or you can apply online. It also says they are looking for employees to work nights and weekends. I thought that would put me out of the running for capriotti's but I realized they close at 9pm most days and 8pm on sundays. I would still be able to catch a bus back home. I will be sure to apply next week or possibly saturday but most likely this upcoming monday. In case your wondering, capriotti's is a sandwich shop similar in style to jersey mike's or subway.

The jamba juice is right next door to capriotti's and it is currently under construction. There is a sign on the window saying they are hiring and to apply online so I will do over the weekend. I will also apply at the el pollo loco and the walmart and jack in the box and cvs and quizno's and flame broiler and five guys and in n out and starbucks and target that are all within the same area as the capriotti's/jamba juice.

Big changes are ahead for me(long blog entry ahead)

Well not that big since I'm not moving or anything similar to that. I should have toned the title down but this is still a big change for me. I am going to take all online classes for the spring semester in order to have a much more flexible schedule (I currently go to classes 3 times a week for 12 hours in total). I have always had at least one class on campus until this upcoming spring semester. So why am I doing this? besides the flexible schedule, I only need 6 more classes(not counting the spring semester) and I need to be a full time student in order to get a free bus pass. Why do I need a free bus pass? I would spend $4.35 a day on bus fare and that's just for one day. Imagine if I had class 3 times a week then multiply that times 16. Yes it adds up especially when I have a math and english class that require you to purchase an access code that also isn't cheap. I believe that having classes 3 times a week holds me back from getting a job. Yes I know people have flexible schedules and companies work around school but I feel like I have to have everyday open or I won't even get an interview. I know at panera bread, they were looking for employees to work on tuesdays and thursdays and with my bad luck, I had school on those days.

I couldn't get a full time schedule with the classes I needed, even if I added some filler classes so I decided to go online only and be a part time student. If things go as planned, I will get a job before may or else I will cry (I'm not sure if I'm serious or not about that). I will go to summer school and take 2 p.e. classes and possibly a photography or math or astronomy lab(whatever is open and works with my schedule). Then in the fall semester I will take what classes I need that I have left. Hopefully I can get a job by mid december or january and then I can save up to buy a vespa style scooter(100 cc or higher).

With a scooter I will be able to save $ on gas and bus fare since I will be a part time student. It will also give me more flexibility in school(I would be able to take night classes). In the meantime, one of my classes has an assignment where I have to turn in my resume and the teacher gives feedback then I correct it and turn it again until she is happy with the final results. I feel like it is too soon to apply at places such as walmart and say I have a open schedule. I will iinstead apply at food 4 less and ralph's with an open schedule since the last time I applied at a ralph's(may 2013). I didn't get a call back until mid august.

As for places I will apply at once I get my resume back and finish my class/homework. There's the puente hills mall, the soon to open dunkin donuts, party city, family dollar, two 99 cents stores, possibly 3 jack in the boxes, flame broiler, the habbit, pizza hut, buffalo wild wings, 2 targets, 2 walmarts, savers, 3 or 4 subways, vons, 3 starbucks, staples, office depot, cvs, walgreens, possibly stater bros(they have hiring events), yum yum donuts, winchell's donuts, 2 rite aids, in n out, five guys, yougurtland, menchie's yogurt, baja fresh, 2 hallmark stores, ross, big lots, 3 fresh n easy's,chilli's, olive garden, wienersnitzchel. Those are all off the top off my head and I'm sure I am forgetting others. This also isn't counting small businesses or offices I'll run into on CL or indeed.

I went to the vineland swapmeet today

Yes 2 weeks in a row on the same day. This time I also had a good (although small haul). The guy with a hundred hot wheels wasn't there. The same lady that wanted $1 per micro machines didn't have the cars anymore. Another lady that wanted 75 cents per hot wheels car brought out new cars and lowered her price to 50 cents per car so I got 4 which are pictured below. Another vendor had a tray of hws and the porsche 930 was the only one that interested me. Every wednesday there is a vendor that caters to the nerd/comic book crowd with comics, action figures, magazines and hot wheels. He has a micro machines fold up van and about 50 cars. I got 3 of them which are pictured below. I didn't find the charger cable for my digital camera I bought last week although I did find more low priced cameras. I bought 2 packs of tic tacs for $1 at the same spot where I got skittles and gum last week. They also had a 28 ounce bottle of sriracha hot sauce for $2.50 but I didn't buy it. I should have started off this post with my first find. Literally 60 feet from the entrance and at the first post I run into, I see a stack of hardcover diary of a wimpy kid books. I bought 4 of them which are pictured below. I left behind the first book and the 3rd wheel. With these purchases I have all of the series except for the newest book, the long haul which came out earlier this month.

I didn't think I would find hard luck so soon and for $1 (it came out last year and they were all $1 each). The only way I'll find the last book soon is if a kid gets it taken away as punishment and the parents sell it at the swapmeet. Don't laugh, my parents did that with my super nintendo in 1996 or 97 although they didn't sell it at a swapmeet, it still hurt. All in all it was a good day that started off nicely. I'm not sure why but the porsche 930 looks like a micro machine in the pictures. It's a normal sized hot wheels car.

The big bang theory is one of my favorite shows

I been watching it since 2011 when an astronomy teacher showed it in class(the episode where the guys go camping) and I was hooked.I quickly acquired seasons 3 and 4 (which became my favorite season). I got used to BBT being on mondays and sometimes thursdays and now I have a hard time adjusting to new episodes on thursdays, especially when at 8pm on mondays I half expect BBT to be on. Anyways the newer episodes since 2012 have a different feel from the earlier seasons because all of the guys have girlfriends now. The first few seasons felt like a couple of guys hanging out and one girl and now the group has expanded. It was noticeable in that episode where amy or penny or bernadette asks why they don't get a table since they are all crowded around the coffee table. I love when amy cried in her cupcake. I came close to doing that on my bday this past august but I didn't have a candle. I loved when raj was going to whip out his wand at the first monster he see's to shoot his magic all over his ass. The show has lots of funny moments that I'm forgetting and that will probably come back to me.

I enjoyed the scene where sheldon say's he doesn't look like C3PO. When howard mocked bernadette's voice "I don't sound like that". Then there's other scenes I couldn't find videos of such as when sheldon falls down the stairs and when raj has that bollywood style dream where he and bernadette sing a song. Also howard's impressions and the science panel discussion and howard's innuendo with bernadette and the gay implication with raj and howard.

I went to the vineland swapmeet last wednesday

I been meaning to post this entry since then but something school related always comes up. Anyways I had a pretty good(although small) haul this time. I didn't include pictures of my skittles and gum find since you already know what those look like. A lady who I always buy gum from was selling wild berry skittles at a price of 3 for a dollar. I got 3 and she told me to get another one so 25 cents each was nice. I also got 4 packs of stride gum for 50 cents each. I buy 93% of my breath mints/gum at that swapmeet at that post. I got a samsung SL 201 digital camera for $5 on a impulse buy. I went to a table that had 10 digital cameras and about 7 mp3 players. 7 of the cameras were SL 201's and the one I got had no physical problems with the screen or lens and it started up although the battery died soon after. I need to get a charger which I hope I can find at the swapmeet tomorrow. Another vendor had one of my biggest fantasies(yes I fantasize about hot wheels at swapmeets). He had 3 tables with about 100 hot wheels by my rough estimate. It dulled my hunt a little bit that the majority were from the late 90's to early 00's but I was able to find 2 of them from the early 90's. I also found one that comes with a small extra micro machines sized car and a batmobile. There was more vendors that were selling loose hws from the early 80's but they wanted at least 75cents for one car. I hope that hws guy is there tomorrow. I was close to buying 3 micro machines cars but the lady asked her son how much they were and when he said $1 I decided to wait until they go unsold and I hope I can buy them for 50 cents.

Corner bakery cafe in whittier is hiring

I should mention it is going to open soon and the location is the one across the street from the quad where boston market used to be. I saw a CL ad that links you to careerbuilder.com. The good news is that you don't need to make an account in order to apply. You just answer a few questions and submit your resume and your done. It takes less then 9 minutes

Back to the future 2 takes place in 2015

When marty traveled into the future, it was the year 2015 that he ended up in. I for one welcome hoverboards and look foward to jaws 19 and pontiac returning from the dead. Check out the picture of marty window shopping, everything in the window is now an antique. By the way I'm tempted to go to hill valley school since it's across town from me. I hope flying cars are mainstream next year because many people are already bad enough drivers without having to move up and down

Retro saturdays and kriss kross

Yes that kriss kross, the mack daddy and daddy mack who wore their clothes backwards are being mentioned in my blog. Here's the link to their most famous song and video. For some reason, when I hear that song it reminds me of 1996 and burger king and the b.k kids club and virtual fighter 2. Sometimes I'm tempted to wear my clothes backwards but it was stupid then and it's still stupid now.

Retro fridays and 90's hot wheels

Just looking at these cars makes me think back to a simpler time in the world. I love the rims these cars had back then, they were mostly all metal with little plastic. I like the minimal graphics with just blue against the hws logo. They remind me of kmart for some reason and nirvana and a time when life was less stressful. I look for early to mid 90's hws at yard sales and thrift stores as a way to hold onto the past similar to the way the public held onto ross perot

Retro friday and super mario world

Me and this game have a long history together. My parents got me a snes at the el monte swapmeet, it came with 2 controllers and super mario world. I would spend hours trying to beat the game which was hard to do because I would have to go back to get more lives. When I finally got to bowser's castle, I saved the game and turned off my snes to go to bed. Well there was a thunderstorm and the power went out and my file got erased. Yes my little kid self was crushed when I discovered how cruel the world can be. I didn't give up though and it took me 3 months but I finally got to beat the game. The music will instantly cause me to nostalgia bomb heavily especially when you defeat a koopa kid. My parents sold my snes because of my grades but I bought one about 5 years later(reuniting me with SMW). Then I sold that one 8 years later to purchase a wii. Yep SMW was the first game I got on VC. Even in handheld format I have history with it. I remember seeing the super mario advance 2 commercials which made me desperately want a gameboy advance. I traded in some ps1 games for store credit then bought a pink gba because it was 10 dollars cheaper. I got SMW for the gba 2 days later(yes I went 2 days without a game). I kept that for 4 years then I reacquired the game a year later when I traded my 2nd pokemon silver game for it. Idk what it is but I have had multiple copies of games throughout the years although not all at once. For example, I have had 4 pokemon blues and 4 yoishi's islands. Since this was my first game on my first system, I still treasure this game and it never gets old exploring all the levels

Starbucks has a holiday happy hour

It's buy one get one free holiday drinks and sunday is the last day. It runs from 2-5pm unless your a starbucks member then it's to 6pm. I went yesterday and got a gingerbread latte and a chestnut praline latte. I think tomorrow or saturday I'll get a peppermint mocha latte and a pumpkin spice latte since that will be phased out soon. I like panera's coffee a lot more but I love saving money

Dunkin Donuts is coming to my town

For those that don't live in california and are wondering what the big deal is, dunkin donuts recently opened a location in santa monica. It is the only dunkin donuts in the southern california area. There is one under construction where an arby's used to be (R.I.P). They have a big banner announcing where to email and apply at. For the past week I haven't seen the banner completely. It is on a fast street and the banner is really high up. I think tomorrow I'll actually walk to where it's at and take a picture so I can apply at DD. California already has In N out and Five guys and now DD will complete the list of famous regional franchises.

An example of my photo shop skills

I took this pic last week around 5pm from rio hondo college. I was looking out towards downtown la. On a clear day you can see the buildings. Anyways, the original looks brighter and washed out compared to the 2 edits I made(One is just cropped and the other keeps the original aspect ratio). It took me about 8 minutes to do this and I'm tempted to include it in my school's art for sale gallery

norm's burgers is hiring

I went their this week and they brought out the trusty now hiring sign. I asked and it was for the position of a cook (which I don't have job experience for). So while I won't get hired (I did apply for cashier back in late august). I hope that someone will see this entry and get the job and I will high five them. Also I like to add that the food at norm's burgers is delicious and filling

November 12 2001

In case your wondering why that date is so specific and what happened. To make it simple, american airlines flight 587 crashed into a harbor near queens new york. Obviously sept 11 was still fresh in our minds and I assumed it was another terrorist attack. It turned out that the plane's use of the rudder caused the stabilizer to snap off. Just because it wasn't a planned attack did it mean there was a happy ending. Everyone on board tragically died as did 5 people on the ground. This event stayed stuck in mind because me and a guy used to great each other with sept 11 and nov 12 as a way to never forget. I haven't forgotten even as time has the erased the memories of others. At times I feel like I'm the only one that remembers that tragic day. Here's the wikipedia article

Ralph's at the quad of whittier

In case your wondering why I focused on this particular ralph's. Kroger(parent company of ralph's) decided to close some stores in southern california and one of them who gets the axe is the quad location.  That ralph's has been around since the 60's(although it used to be across the street). I really liked that ralph's compared to the one at colima and whittier and the other one on whittier blvd. Mostly because of how and where they keep the hot wheels but also because the employees don't go through the product. I considered it my honey hole and the store has history here in whittier. The last time I went, the shelves were really bare and there was a huge crowd around the liquor. I felt sad just being there especially when I realized that it was my last time going to that location. I already miss it and I wonder what store will replace it.

Retro fridays and pizza head from pizza hut

In the mid to late 90's pizza hut simply moved some toppings on a slice of 'za and bam a mascot was born. He was called pizza head and he would always get into bad situations. He would never get eaten on camera but he did come close. The one commercial I remember most was the goosebumps one.

Retro friday and drawing an S

These were cool to do in middle school and my neighbor taught me how to do one. I'm sure many of you will remember if you see the picture. You can make one with 6 lines. Idk why but it seems like a folder isn't yours unless you put a bunch of S logos on it

I have a 99 cents store application

I been so busy with school work and home work that I neglected the application. It is in a folder just waiting for the day I take a pen to it's crisp white pages and leak some ink onto it. I didn't mean to leave it in a dark slim prison(folder) but life happens. I'll turn it in on monday when I go to the post office since it's close by. Yes I'll dress nicely with a clean haircut and no facial hair.

9 extra dollars

I don't know how it happened or if I miscalculated/didn't pay attention but I have 9 extra dollars. I could give into my urges and buy any of these things I have in mind
  1. Wario land 2
  2. Street fighter alpha 3 for gba
  3. Street fighter 2 for gameboy
  4. Carrot crazy for gbc
  5. Sonic advance 1
  6. Rayman advance
  7. A super nintendo controller
  8. A 16 or 32 gb micro sd card
  9. Nirvana or power rangers shirt
  10. Hardcore diaries by mick foley
  11. Diary of a wimpy kid books
  12. Micro machines
  13. Hot wheels
  14. 90's video game magazines
  15. A semi broken android phone
  16. Headphones
Instead I think I will spend the money and get some of my photos printed on 8x10 and 5x7 and other various size paper. I'll do this to beef up my physical portfolio and yes I am wondering if anyone knows any place(physical or online) that has good rates on photo prints

Retro saturdays and handhelds in 1991

Check out this vintage store ad. I think it was from sears but it's not important, just look at those prices and keep in mind this is in 1991 money. No wonder the gameboy won, the games are $18 to $20 cheaper then game gear games. Also look at the genesis games, strider and toejam and earl are $98.99. No that's not a typo, games were that expensive and the cheapest was $38.99. This is why you buy used games because everyone knows that sega genesis game loses half it's value once it leaves the lot

Retro saturdays and yoishi's island

This game brings me back fond memories of the 90's and my childhood. I have played it before lots of times as most recently as last year. Today it felt different though. Maybe because it was a slow saturday but I could recall events from childhood that revolved around this game. I remember getting it at toys r us when it was new(they had the ticket system back then) and watching the whole intro video. For old times sake I watched it which instantly made me get something in my eye. I felt like a kid again. I started a new file then played until the first mini boss. It made me flash back to last week and to my childhood again. Last week because one of my mom's aunt had her funeral which it made hard to believe it's already been 7 days. My childhood because I used go to her house(I would take my snes) and play yoishi's island with her sons. I almost traded it for their sega genesis but I was loyal to yoishi's island. I flashed back to playing YI at sears and kmart and toys r us. Even playing YI on my snes after school was another memory that came back to me. I played it on my gba sp but I have a snes controller and a wii to get a semi faithful experience.

I really wish I could be my 8 year self again even if it's just for one day and play through. Sure I will be a kid but I wouldn't mind just as long as I went to kmart one last time
