Applying at baskin robbins and norm's burgers

On friday I applied at baskin robbins and norm's burgers. First I'll start with b.r. I printed out the application from their website and filled it out. It is pretty straight forward and 2 pages long. I went in person during a semi busy time and handed it to an employee(there was 3 of them) and she put it on a counter near the fridge that has cakes. After that I went to norm's burgers. It is not affiliated with norm's restaurant(yes that one). I saw the giant NOW HIRING banner the day before and figure I give it a shot. They were only hiring for cashier so I took the application and sat down. It was only page and didn't ask for references. I thought it was missing another page but it was just that one because I asked. There was a girl across the tables also filling one out. I hope I get hired at either place because they are close by and I like both companies

The wonder years 29-34

The first episode I saw was about kevin and paul having a big blow up over baseball cards. They get into a minor argument because kevin wants paul's willey mcovey and paul want's kevin's ted williams card. It starts off as a minor insult then escalates into a huge fight where they don't talk to each other anymore. Kevin makes "friends" with a big kid who does whatever kevin wants and paul makes "friends" with a jock. Kevin realizes how much he misses paul when he sees his new "friend" with paul's new "friend". They of course make up and go back to being best friends again while camping out in the backyard and are discussing trading baseball cards. I noticed that the cards they have are from the late 80's. It's noticeable if you pause it on close ups.

The 2nd episode was about the family car. I can relate to this one and so can a lot of people unless you live in manhattan. Since it was the late 60's, every person on the block(and the dog) would stare at the neighbor that got a new car. It was like a one car parade meanwhile jack is working on the family station wagon since it's been giving him more and more problems. Norma convinces him they might need a new car since it left her stranded on her way home. The whole family excitedly heads to the car dealership where they all fall in love with a mustang well except for jack. He heads to the negotiation room and has rejects the $250 trade in value of his station wagon. Everyone heads home disappointed and things are tense at dinner until karen tells jack he is cheap. The next day they all wash the car and put a for sale sign. We see a montage of potential buyers thinking jack is asking way too much. We eventually see jack driving home a new '69 ford galaxie 500 and everyone is happy for him including the neighbors. The most touching part that most of us can relate to happens next. Kevin turns around to see a tow truck hooking up the station wagon then slowly driving it away. He realizes why his dad loved that car so much and why he thought it was worth more. He asks his dad where they are going to take it and no one in the family is sure. The scene ends with the car being hauled away. It reminded me a lot of when my dad sold his blue '88 mustang. I thought I was going to learn to drive in it and keep it but things didn't turn out that way. Also it reminded me of when my dad sold my mom's 1989 F-150, that one she had since 1994 and kept it until 2007. I actually cried after it got towed away.

The 3rd episode was about kevin getting a pimple before the family friends come to visit (the pruittes). Kevin tries lots of different ways to get rid of it and nothing works. He even resorts to paying $1 for his brother's zit cream since he would only sell it to him and not let him borrow it. He covers it up with a band aid and tells winnie he got into a fight with a school bully when she asks what happened(there sure was a lot of bullies back then). The bully confronts kevin for starting rumors they got into a fight. Kevin realizes things have gotten out of hand so when he heads home he doesn't have the band aid when the pruittes are over. He see's their daughter also has a noticeable pimple.

The 4th episode I saw was about math class. Kevin tries hard and keeps getting D's because his teacher grades on a curve. He notices some of his classmates blatantly cheating with a crib sheet. Some how his teacher doesn't notice the cheaters/ Kevin is at the library studying when he overhears eddie(the main cheater) talking about how the teacher uses the same tests every year and hands out answers if you tell him the secret code "how about those mets". Kevin struggles some more so he goes to eddie and gets an in. His grades rise with each test until his teacher places him in the honor class. Of course kevin is overwhelmed and his teacher places him back in his old math class where kevin keeps his grades up.

The 5th episode I saw was about kevin joining a band. He saves a new kid from getting in trouble with the vice principal since playing guitar is against the rules(how things change). Larry(the kid kevin saved) offers to teach kevin how to play guitar. Kevin spends his lawn mowing money on a electric guitar and amp for the low price of $38.99 roughly translating to $253.12 in today's money. The band calls themselves the electric shoes and they jam in a garage. Larry gets them a gig at amy's birthday party. We see them on the small stage getting ready while larry has stage fright and then the cops and amy's dad busts in and breaks it up before the show even starts. The kids in the crowd start a let them play chant while the band members realize this is what it must be like to play in front of huge crowds and they liked it. The band breaks up a week later but kevin still keeps his love of music.

The 6th episode I saw was about the school dance. Kevin has a thing for a girl in his science class named susan. He is giong to ask her to the dance when his lab partner linda asks him to go with her as friends. So he takes her up on her offer but then susan asks him to the dance so he has 2 dates. At the dance he lets linda dance with a guy who likes her and looks foward to dancing with susan. He clams up in front of her so she gets back with boyfriend. Kevin realizes he paid so much attention to susan that he hurt linda who had a thing for him. He stands by himself by the punch bowl while paul sits on a chair looking pretty lonely. Luckily for paul, carla(his ex) announces on the speaker system that she wants to dance with him. Only kevin is left alone aimlessly wandering through the crowd. He looks for winnie and she comes into the crowd also looking for someone but they just miss each other. Link to the ending Seriously just watch the ending. It is pretty powerful especially with the music that plays and how they both juuusssstttt miss each other. It's also a strong metaphor for life and incredible foreshadowing for later on. While I didn't go to any school dances I feel I could relate to kevin just missing out. The quote by adult kevin at the end is the cherry on the something in your eye cherry.
"All our young lives we search for someone to love. Someone who makes us complete. We choose partners and change partners. We dance to a song of heartbreak and hope. All the while wondering if somewhere, somehow, there's someone perfect, who might be searching for us."

The wonder years 27 and 28

Ok the first episode I saw was about kevin playing tackle football with his friends at the park after school. He comes home with blood on his shirt but slyly convinces his mom that it's spaghetti sauce. The next day kevin is playing at the park again when he was supposed to wait for his to pick him up after school so she can take him clothes shopping. She realizes he was playing tackle football and says it's dangerous. Norma keeps making excuses to keep kevin from the park such as taking him shoe shopping, eventually kevin has enough and he tells his mom he is going to play. So she leaves for home and he does play. Kevin's mom turned out to be right as kevin gets gangtackled, leaving him with big cuts on his arm. At home kevin bandages his arm by himself while realizing his mom was right and that he could have used her help instead of lying to her.

The 2nd episode was about a school play. Kevin, paul and winnie all try out for different parts well except for kevin whose the back up spotlight assistant. Winnie gets the lead role and paul is happy being the main spotlight controller. Most of the episode is spent with winnie being nervous she'll mess up and her parents fighting. On the day of the play, paul can't man the spotlight because he has stage fright so kevin does it while winnie gives a great performance. She does mess up once but kevin like always, helps her out. Winnie's touching performance inspires her mom to move back in with her husband and winnie.

Retro fridays and A.C. Slater and Zack Morris

Look how early 90's their clothes are. Even if you didn't know anything about it you would know this picture is pretty old. By the way I wonder where you can buy colorful pants in a store that is not a thrift store

Retro fridays and driving simulators

Since fridays are more retro then thursdays, here is a driving simulator toy. I got one when I was 4 or 5 at a yard sale or I think one of my neighbors might have thrown out lots of good toys. Anyways you move the wheel to move the car on the screen . I don't remember if there was curves or not but it gets boring quickly even for a young child

The wonder years 23-26

The first episode I saw was about the last day of school. Kevin asks winnie to sign his yearbook but she only writes "enjoy your summer" or something similarly impersonal. Kevin feels like his summer vacation is a bust even though it just started. His dad makes him clean the garage so while he does that, winnie talks with him and kisses him while he goes on a rant. Like most girls at that age, she runs across the street to her house leaving kevin even more confused. He goes to the neighborhood bbq in evening and then he realizes how much life is changing since paul and winnie are going with their families on vacation. He confronts winnie about how confusing she is and if she likes him. She mentions that she misses her brother and she doesn't know. At the end, winnie and kevin chat on the porch.

The 2nd episode I saw was about kevin's vacation. The arnold family goes on their yearly beach town trip only this time they take paul with them(apparently he didn't go with his family on vacation). Jack is complaining about the prices while karen is just complaining, kevin is the only one that has a positive attitude. At the beach, kevin meets an older girl so he lies about his age. At dinner, kevin asks his mom if he can go to the pier to meet the girl. At the pier she lets kevin know she will only be at the beach one more day and that she will write to him. Kevin is bummed as he walks to the room but he sees his family and for the first time that trip, they all have a good time together just like old times.

The 3rd episode I saw was about kevin's math class. I'm sure we can all relate to when kevin is struggling in math when he is used to getting A's and B's. Kevin starts off the school year with 2 straight D's on quizes. He realizes that school is getting harder so he goes to his teacher for tutoring. Luckily kevin's math teacher doesn't give up on him and he is able to get better grades. This episode brought me back to 2nd grade and english. I remember learning and attempting to learn about pronouns and adjectives and adverbs which still scare me. The scene where kevin is taking a test and he panics and looks around and sees everyone writing while he starts sweating reminds me of me everytime I take a test.

The 4th episode I saw was about wayne getting his driver's license. Norma and jack have him do errands since he is eager to drive. One of which includes driving kevin and paul to the mall. Wayne is not happy having to do this so he gives kevin a hard time. Kevin ignores him since he meets his "dream" girl. Wayne ever the jerk picks up kevin from the mall but he does the old "speed up when they are about to open the door trick" leaving kevin humiliated in front of the girl

First day of school

In case your wondering how it went, well I spent most of my 2D class worrying about how I am going to pay for all the supplies. Once the class let out I went to the library and couldn't go on ebay fast enough. Ebay had some good deals but what really saved me is jo-ann's fabrics. I was able to find graphite pencils for cheap and the gum eraser and I realized things aren't so expensive if I buy them at jo-ann's. I was temporarily bummed when some of the materials had an online only sticker but jo-ann's has flate rate $1.99 shipping tomorrow. My freehand draw class is what depressed me. I was expecting the lab portion to be......well a lab. In art labs the teachers don't mind if you leave early as long as you don't book it as soon as the lab starts and if you actually accomplish something. This teacher's syllabus says you have to stay for the whole 3 hours and 5 minutes unless you have a valid excuse. This worries me because the last bus passes by at 10:19 I think. I would have to run down the hill and hope it doesn't pass by earlier then normal. In case your wondering I don't have any friends in either classes and I don't have any friends at school that drive nor can my parents pick me up since we have 1 working car at the moment and my dad is at work when I get out of school. It stressed me out so much worrying about missing the last bus that I almost got sick, In case your wondering why the class was depressing, it made me think of how I can't get a job and if only I had a job I could have a vespa style scooter and I wouldn't have to be so worried about missing the last bus. In case anyone reading would like to give me a ride back home from rio hondo to lambert and colima I would appreciate it a lot and will be forever in debt to your priceless advice

The wonder years 20-22

The 1st episode I saw was about karen encouraging kevin to ditch school with her and her friends. They keep this up for a few days while karen's guidance counselor is looking for her. It all hits the fan when the counselor schedules a parent teacher conference. Karen decides to run away to san francisco rather then get in trouble. Kevin stays up worrying about if he'll ever see his sister again. She does come back and the family has a tearful reunion.

The 2nd episode I saw was about square dancing. Everyone in gym class is paired up with a permanent partner. Kevin's partner is the school weirdo named margret. Everyone laughs at kevin and he feels like a laughingstock. While kevin only see's her as a square dancing partner, margret wants to hang out with kevin after school. She comes over to his house(I don't know how she found out where he lives) and kevin actually makes an effort. He finds out she is a pretty nice girl but wayne has to ruin it by chatting with her. Kevin promised to go to her house later tonight but he ding dong ditches. The next day margret confronts kevin and he lets it all out that they should be secret friends, she takes it pretty bad exclaiming "I thought you were different". Kevin dances with her one last time while explaining that in 7th grade you only care about being cool

The 3rd episode I saw was about harper's woods which is the place where kevin and winnie had their first kiss in the pilot episode. Kevin and winnie walk to the woods to have a kiss but paul finds them and he informs them there are construction workers. Sadly paul is not lying, the workers inform the gang that they can stay until the bulldozers come. The group mulls it over with karen over what to do. Kevin gives a passionate speech at a board meeting about how his childhood is in those woods and of course he makes no impact. The 3 of them go to the park at night one last time to see what they can do. Winnie decides to count to play hide and go seek. So they play like children one last time. The next day it was torn down. The episode ends with a shot of 2 kids skateboarding on a sidewalk where the camera pans down and you see the initials K.A. W.C.  P.P.

I like how this show knows how to get you right in your childhood. Each episode always makes you feel something. It is better then any rom com or chick flick especially the kevin and winnie episodes.

Applying at buffalo wild wings

There is a buffalo wild wings that is currently under construction where nickle nickle used to be. This morning I got an email from snagajob that buffalo wild wings was hiring so I clicked the link to see which locations. I applied and it is pretty straight foward. It asks you questions where you have to pay attention such as "who is larry married to?" and "what is the temperature range of the danger zone". I like how you can apply for more then 1 position and how you don't need to make an account or take a department store style personality survey. Hopefully I get a call back when the restaurant is finished

The wonder years 18&19 and wwf smackdown and school

In case your wondering why I didn't post a blog entry yesterday, well the semester has officially started and 2 of my classes are online so I already have assignments due and I already have completed most of my work. Tomorrow is when my on campus classes start at rio hondo. I usually take classes on mondays & wednesdays but this semester I could only make the schedule work if I took classes that start at 3:30 pm and the last class has a lab that ends at 10pm. Since I ride the bus I will attempt to get out around 8:30 or 9pm(which is when the last bus passes by the school). I don't know anyone in my classes and I have a hard time making friends much less asking them for rides.

Today I only watched 2 episodes of the wonder years because I watched the 1st episode of wwf smackdown. The first episode I saw was about kevin dealing with a bully named eddie. Eddie beats up kevin for no reason and his cronies give paul a swirlie. Kevin keeps taking his punishment while in the subplot, winnie is still mad at him for talking behind her back. To make things worse, winnie starts to date eddie and she mentions that kevin is a jerk. Eddie beats up kevin and kevin does try to fight back. In slow-mo we see kevin rear back his fist and..............he misses badly by hitting eddie on the shoulder. Eddie gleefully pounds kevin. The next day eddie is teasing winnie then kevin for some reason decides to stand up to him and then...........the results are the same. Kevin gets his face smashed then winnie forgives him. Paul and winnie have to help kevin walk home but he is happy with how things are.

The 2nd episode I saw was about kevin's birthday. Ever since paul and kevin were little, they're birthdays were 4 days apart so they always celebrated them together. This year things are different, paul is jewish and turning 13 so he is having a bar mitzvah. To make things worse, it is on the same day as kevin's birthday. Kevin is feeling jealous that his parents aren't planning anything and his dad is busy working on getting the family impala fixed. Eventually kevin has a ok birthday and he goes to paul's bar mitzvah. He is proud to be a part of something big in paul's life.

I saved wwf smackdown for last. It premiered in august 26 1999 which also happens to be my brother's birthday. I was watching it with the weirdest sense of deja vu. Back then I used to go to bed at 9pm sharp since I had a fear of waking up late and being late for school and everyone looking at me when I showed up. I got off road but anyways it is so surreal watching the WWF. I never realized how ingrained it is to hear wwe and world wrestling entertainment that is a shock to hear wwf and world wrestling federation. It is sad how only 3 wrestlers from the debut show are still active wrestlers, well 5 if you count the rock and the undertaker(which I don't). Kane doesn't wrestle much nowadays and is used as a position of authority and to beat people up. Mark henry is even more popular now then he was back then. Triple H is semi retired. The rock is a part time wrestler and right now is making movies. The undertaker only wrestles one match a year and the rumor is that he might retire. It is also tragic seeing 3 now dead wrestlers. It is even more heart breaking when 2 of them had a faceoff. They were the big boss man and test. Also owen hart had a part as the blue blazer. Back then there was a lot more interview segments but they were kept sweet and short. The main event was the rock and stone cold against triple H and the undertaker(who joined forces with the corporation in order to make the corporate ministry). I don't remember who won since it ended in a DQ and then half the locker room came out and got into a brawl.

I'll make an effort to keep up my blog and to apply at jobs. The buffalo wild wings that is being constructed where nickle nickle used to be is hiring on snagajob. I will attempt to apply there later on today. By the way, if anyone has any art supplies such as those pencils and erasers and paper that artists use(not the kind you can buy at target) then I would appreciate it if you can sell me some.

The wonder years 14-17

The first episode I watched was about kevin neglecting to do his science project so his teacher (played by ben stein) gives him the weekend to do it. Kevin and paul experiment on a hamster to see how certain foods affect it's ability to finish a maze. Norma and jack decide to go on a date and karen just leaves to hang with her friends, leaving the 2 arnold boys and paul home alone. Obviously kevin and wayne get into a fight and he ends up sucking up kevin's hamster with the vacuum cleaner in process killing it. Kevin has had enough so he unloads on wayne a bombshell of "no one likes you because your mean". They don't talk after that until they run into each other in the park and wayne apologizes and they make up.

The 2nd episode I saw felt really dragged out and forced. It is about the sport of basketball in gym class. Paul is picked last for the teams and kevin feels bad for him. He goes to his teacher coach cutlip and tells him how it is not fair someone has to be last. The next day kevin is made a team captain and he picks paul then screech(from saved by the bell) then he goes all out and composes a team of castoffs. Of course they do terrible and paul misses a shot horribly which hits coach cutlip on the head causing him to swallow his whistle. Everyone forgets about the game and laughs at him. Now all the boys are united and play the game with more vigor.

The 3rd episode I saw was about protesting the vietnam war. Many of the students in the student council are organizing a walkout to protest the fact that american troops are in vietnam. The students pick arnold as their leader and when he walks out the others will follow him. The vice principal lets everyone know that any student walking out will be suspended and it will go on their permanent record. One of kevin's teacher's lets him know that the decision is all up to kevin. On the day of the scheduled walkout, kevin gets up but only to go to the restroom, the other students follow and walk out. Kevin comes out and sees that the whole school is taking part so he joins in.

The 4th episode I saw was about kevin making jokes about his friends behind their backs. He assumes no one will spread his jokes until his ex, becky slater tells everyone what he said about them. She is about to tell winnie what kevin said but has a change of heart because she doesn't want to hurt her. Just when things look good for kevin, becky slater does tell winnie and winnie gets mad at kevin for it.

As I'm watching these episodes, kevin already has been through a lot in his life especially for a 12 year old. Some of these episodes feel forced and should have been a 2 part episode like the one where kevin goes steady with becky and where he dumps her. While others should have been the subplot in a episode such as the basketball one

The wonder years episodes 10-13

The first episode is something a lot of us can relate to. Kevin hears a rumor that winnie is going to break up with kirk but they don't. Fed up with being alone, he goes steady(why don't we use that term) with becky slater(played by winnie cooper's real life sister). The most touching part is the ending. Kevin has a talk with becky in front of the school buses. He mentions that he felt pressured to go steady with a girl and that he doesn't really know her and he didn't really want to be steady with her. She is willing to give the relationship a try and kevin walks her home since she missed her bus bcause of their little chat.

The 2nd episode I saw is also another one we can relate to. Kirk asks kevin to ask winnie if she still likes him. Winnie gives kevin the answer of "I like him but I don't like him like him" and that she is going to break up with kirk soon. Kevin is dumbfounded when he sees winnie and kirk kissing in the hallway especially since he already told becky slater he just wanted to be friends(he got punched and the friend zone existed back then). To complicate things, kirk and kevin ask another guy to ask winnie what she feels about them and the 3rd guy ends up going on a date. At the end kevin goes to winnie's house and she is unsure of how she feels about kevin. I mean which one of us knew about relationships when we were in middle school.

The 3rd episode was about kevin's mom norma taking a pottery class. Kevin's dad jack is secretly threatened by this and every little thing becomes a huge argument. The arnold kids have never seen there parents argue in front of them so the house is chaos. Eventually jack and norma work things out.

The 4th episode I saw was about kevin's piano lessons. He is threatening to quit because he finds it useless and boring and doesn't even practice. His mom changes things when she mentions how she and kevin's piano teacher were talking and apparently kevin has talent that he should expand on. He is uplifted by this and takes his lessons and practice seriously and intends to be in the recital. At rehearsal things go bad for him when the more talented Ronald decides to play the same song as kevin. Kevin goes after ron and he messes up the notes. He ended up not going to the recital and we end with the narrator saying "I don't remember the notes but I remember the music"

Retro fridays lunchables pizza

Growing up, lunchables decided to bring out new products since the crackers and meat were getting boring. They came out with pizza, taco bell soft tacos and taco bell hard tacos. I loved the pizza the most. If you got one for lunch all the kids respected you a little more. I always ate it cold and only heated it up once which was a bad idea. When the pizza is hot the cheese and sauce taste a lot different. I'm not sure if these are still in production since I haven't checked the lunchables section because they are more expensive then buying 3 things from the dollar menu at mcdonalds or going to del taco.

Retro fridays kelly kapowski

I'm sure I wasn't the only one that had a crush on kelly kapowski from saved by the bell. Look how 90's her clothes are and even today she is still hot

The wonder years episodes 5-9

I watched 5 episodes of the wonder years today mostly because they are short without commercials or the theme song or ending credits. The first one I saw was about kevin working up the courage to call a girl on the phone. It reminds me a lot of my first gf because it took me an hour just to call her and I was 12 at the time and in middle school.

The 2nd episode I saw was about an upcoming school dance. Kevin is confident he is going with the girl from the previous episode (Lisa) but instead mark paul gosselaar beats him to the punch. Kevin is bummed but his spirit is lifted when he sees winnie and asks her to the dance but of course she already has a boyfriend/date named kirk. He almost decides not to go but does and he eventually has a slow dance with winnie and the narrator mentions how things are changing as they are growing up. kevin and winnie slow dance

The 3rd episode was about winnie and kirk being the "cool" couple and they attract the cool kids. Kevin and paul want to be cool too so they hang out with the older tougher guy from school named gary. I'm sure we all had a gary in our lives when we were little. He's a bad boy who pretty much does what he wants and is considered a bad influence.  The 3 boys have a night out camping and gary offers some beer to paul and kevin although only paul drinks some.  The 3 of them also smoke cigarettes. In the start of the episode there was a sequence where kevin had nightmares of him being alone and stuck in a cave. Gary tells them a scary story and leads them into a storm drain. Once inside he tries to scare them but only paul gets frightened. In the end, kevin and paul decide that they are good friends and gary is a lonely boy who really needs friendship. The 2 of them walk to kevin's house and have their camp inside his room.

The 4th episode is one that every boy can relate to at some moment in they're lives. It is about kevin developing a crush on his teacher named miss white. She persuades him to try out for the school play for the part of RFK which is also the lead. He manipulates his dad into not picking him up and she gives him a ride home where he realizes he is much too young for her and that they are just "friends"

The 5th episode is the first christmas episode of the series. Kevin and his brother wayne try hard to convince their dad to buy them a color tv(they have a black and white one and it is 1968). He retorts with the standard excuses of it being too expensive and money doesn't grow on trees. Since he never says no, the boys assume they are getting one anyways and he is putting on a ruse. Kevin's life gets turned upside down when winnie gives him a present at school and now he has to get her something. After the montage of him shopping for her gift, he decides to wait till christmas eve to deliver it in person. He is crushed when winnie's aunt answers the door and winnie went out of town to celebrate the holidays. Kevin walks home feeling bad for himself but things get better when he sees his family caroling and he joins them. It is short lived singing because it starts to rain but the arnold family stays together until they get too wet. Kevin ends the narrative with this is the day he realized there was more to christmas then presents as it is about family

I only started season 2 and I noticed a little pattern in this show, kevin always has to learn something and anything little thing turns into a life lesson. Winnie cooper for some reason has a theme song. When ever kevin runs into her there is a little guitar riff that plays

Retro fridays and pogs

Since fridays are more retro then thursdays, I decided to take a picture of my pogs I still have. I used to have about 300 back in the 90's and then my mom gave them away. I like how early 90's they feel. If they were to be brought back it just wouldn't be the same. I keep an eye out each time I go to the swapmeet for pogs. While I haven't found any long tubes of pogs I still keep hope alive. I still remember how to slam them pretty good and if it was 1995 I would still school kids half my age

I started watching the wonder years

I am going to eventually watch all of the episodes of the wonder years. I have all of them on dvd and they are from the original broadcast and not the edited versions on netflix. Anyways I watched the first 4 episodes back to back. I thought the pilot was going to be boring but it turned out to be really touching especially when kevin and winnie have their first kiss at the park. She reminds me a lot of my neighbor who lived across the street from me throughout my childhood except I didn't kiss her. The 2nd episode was about winnie's brother funeral and how kevin wanted to kiss her again but they didn't and they rather enjoy being kids while it lasts. The other subplot was sex ed being taught in kevin's p.e class. The teacher does a bad job of explaining it so kevin and paul buy/steal a book titled "everything you always wanted to know about sex". The 3rd episode was about kevin wondering why his dad is always mad after work so he goes to work with his dad. He eventually discovers that even his dad gets bossed around and understands why he is always grumpy. The 4th episode was one about karen's(kevin's sister) hippie boyfriend. He rubs kevin the wrong way and he accidentally listens in on his phone conversation and discovers he has another gf. Things erupt at the dinner table when the boyfriend and kevin's dad argue over the importance of war. Finally, karen discovers that kevin was right and breaks down then cries.  I look forward to the rest of the show. I need 2 more episodes and Ill be done with season 1.

TV shows that reference the past

I worded that title wrong, anyways I like when tv shows or actors in a tv show make a subtle or blatant nod to their past. 2 good examples are girl meets world and last man standing. Last man standing stars tim allen and he has 3 daughters. In one episode he needed a new partner at his job when one of his potential clients was richard karn aka al borland from home improvement. They are old friends on the show and richard mentions that "it's been way too long". On his way out he also says "say hi to the wife and 3 boys" and of course it warmed my heart. On another episode johnathan taylor thomas guest starred as the boyfriend of one of tim's daughters. Tim in a nod to the past says "boy you look familar" meanwhile he got huge applause from the studio audience.  Girl meets world is a sequel to boy meets world. It is about corey and topanga living in new york while raising their daughter.  In the first episode there is a mr feeny poster and he appears as a figment of corey's imagination and then I got something in my eye. Shawn hunter and minkus have also appeared. Corey's brother eric is also scheduled to appear. I like how these shows are geared towards kids but they also don't forget about us adults that watched them when we were kids

My birthday so far

In case your wondering how my birthday has gone. I woke up early and ate some whole grain cheerios then I went to RHC to renew my free bus pass. After that I went to target to scope out the hot wheels and someone already beat me to the punch so I walked the short distance to panera bread to pick up a free dessert. Yes on your birthday you get a free dessert at panera bread. I picked a carrot cake but it is more of a carrot cupcake. Anyways I was blasting ice ice baby while I drove to savers. I found out that I can only apply online then I checked the toys and books sections. I found a goosebumps book that I bought. I also found a '57 tbird hot wheels from 1998 so I'm closer to my fantasy of finding early 90's cars. Then I went home and right now I'm waiting for my friend to take me to dinner

Life progress

Just in case your wondering on my current life progress. Tomorrow is my birthday and I will go to savers in the morning to turn in an application and hopefully find something good. I will also go to panera bread since I have a free desert for my birthday. Then I have to go to my school to renew my GO Rio pass(yeah I go to rio hondo college) then I will stop somewhere to get food. I'm not sure where I will go but I'm thinking jack in the box. I don't have much else planned for the day. Yes I was originally going to spend the day with my good friend but she got back with her ex and I don't exist anymore. Yes I did try to make plans with other people but everyone always ends up flaking. So instead I'll just do what I want on my special day. I forgot to mention, I am alone since my parents are on vacation. I think I'll do what amy did on the big bang theory Amy video link except I probably wont cry or maybe I will since job hunting has me down.

Marilyn Monroe shirts

I see these shirts everywhere and It makes me feel bad for Marilyn Monroe. All of them just copy paste her head onto a girl's body and add other things like guns or glasses. The weirdest one I saw is the "selfie" shirt where someone awkwardly added an arm to make it look like she is taking a picture of herself. I can't be the only one that cringes right? The people that design these shirts always use the same picture of marilyn which you can tell because she always has a slight tilt in her head. I think the worst ones are the ones where she has lots of tattoos and is smoking or holding a gun or wearing a bandana. I don't mind those things but it just feels forced to put them on marilyn. I don't hate these shirts, I'm actually going to make a picture of marilyn monroe with kurt cobain and get that screen printed onto a shirt

My birthday is in 2 days

Its on august 20th(wednesday) I was originally going to dinner with a good friend of mine but she got a boyfriend and I magically don't exist anymore. I might not do anything which is the same thing I did last year and the year before that. Last year I got dehydrated and I went to sleep instead of drinking liquids. I don't think I will do that this year. In case your wondering why I'm not doing anything, it's because a lot of people flake even before august.

Scott pilgrim books

I mentioned in a previous post how much I love the movie Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Well the movie is based on the manga series and I also love them. The series is 6 books in total. They are all in black and white with recent re-releases in color. I have the first 4 and have borrowed the last 2 from the library. There are even more characters in the books then in the movie and other movie characters have their back-stories fleshed out. For example in the movie Julie Powers mentions Lisa and in the books we find out she was friends with Scott in high school. It explains the history between Scott and Envy Adams and how they were in a band together. Some characters that aren't in the movie are: knives chau's dad, julie's roomates, kim pine's roomates, lisa miller and wallace's friends. Even though there are a lot of characters in the books it doesn't get confusing since everyone has a distinct personality and is easy to understand. If you want a good read or have seen the movie you really should read the scott pilgrim series.

Saturdays feel more retro then thursdays

As much I want to partake in throwback thursdays, saturdays just feel more retro. I think it's because of all the cartoons that used to be on in the 90's and I loved going to yardsales ever since I was very litle. I went with my mom though obviously. Anyways I didn't have cable when I was little but I didn't need it since on saturday mornings I would tune in to fox and they would air: Goosebumps, toonslyvania, space goofs, eek the cat, life with louie, silver surfer,x-men,spiderman, mighty morphin power rangers, bobbi's world and others I'm forgetting. Here's a commercial for fox kids link. Sometimes I would also watch ABC with their one saturday morning line up. They would air: pepper ann, recess, sabrina the teenage witch and others. CBS and NBC were no slouches either. As a kid we had lots of choices of what to watch on a saturday morning. Sometimes I would be trying to watch 3 things at once. Nowadays it makes me a little sad over the current state of saturday morning programming. The local channels are dominated by infomercials and nature shows while CW(formally WB) is the only channel that airs programming targeted towards kids. I applaud them for keeping the spirit of my childhood alive even though I only really like 2 or 3 shows from there lineup. I'm not alone as you can see from the rating, sure CW isn't getting Fox like 1996 ratings but they are doing well. No matter how old I get I always look foward to getting up on a saturday to watch cartoons and go to yard sales

Retro fridays Toys r us

Since fridays are more retro then thursdays I thought I post about toys r us. This picture is from 1995 or 1996 I believe. I can imagine myself going inside and going to the lego section and to the video game section and to check out the new goosebumps books. Toys r us still exists however I believe it is a shell of itself. It has a small video game area and the book section is nonexistent. Anyways I have very fond memories of going to TRU when I was a kid. Sadly my childhood TRU closed down in 2012. While it didn't go somewhere, it left a big void in a formerly busy shopping center. One of my biggest fantasies is time traveling to 1993 and going to TRU and it will be exactly how it was back then. Even if I don't buy anything I will still cherish every second. Time travel may not exist but I keep dreaming it might one day. In the meantime, I'll keep up the retro fridays

Retro fridays TGIF fridays on abc

Every friday I half expect abc's TGIF line up to be on.  While this is a link to a tgif commercial from 1996, I prefer the 1997-1998 line up. They used to air: Sabrina the teenage witch, Home improvement, Boy meets world and a random filler show. Friday evening line ups are lacking. No one seems to have a block of some sort. The only channel that makes an effort is Sci Fi with friday night smackdown. I used to love staying up to watch all the TGIF shows then going to sleep knowing there was more good tv on in the morning

Negative nancies in video games

My title doesn't mean negative nancies in actual games but people who play games to complain about them. Maybe it's because I grew up in a time when the internet wasn't what is now but when I was little if you didn't like a game then you kept it to yourself or wrote to a video game magazine and maybe they might publish your letter. Nowadays everyone seems to have a stick up their butt over video games. It seems like minor things in a game become huge problems and then the game is "trash". If a person doesn't like a game they can complain on a message board. It's the most noticeable at video game conventions where people will be complaining about a game's trailer video as if they already played the final version. I don't know why they play video games if the only reason they play is to be better. I now I enjoy all sorts of video games that are bad or good. I keep an open mind and don't dwell on the small things. I don't know what started this fad but it is annoying and it can apply to movies too which I'll cover in another post

Experience is intimidating

Whenever I look at jobs on craigslist or indeed.com I always get intimidated by the job requirements of jobs I can do. They always say things like "4+ years in relevant field" or "must have B.A in so and so". I feel like I can't compete or get noticed with my lack of experience and that frustrates me more. I just want someone to give me a chance since it seems like getting a job nowadays is being lucky to have a friend who can get you hired

I went to the swapmeet today(yes again)

I think this will be my last time going in a long time since my parents will be going on vaction on monday and I'm swapmeet'd out. Not really, if a friend wanted to go to the swapmeet of course I would go. Anyways on to my finds, this time I had a pretty good haul. I got pokemon sapphire for $3 and it works great even though it's missing the label. I found micro machines which I got for 50 cents each. I would have bought more but another vendor was selling them for $2 EACH. The micro machines I got are:a semi truck, a space shuttle, a chevy blazer, a c4 corvette and a funny car. I also saw 2 micro machines star wars playsets but they were open and missing parts. I got my usual hot wheels for 50 cents and I saw a different vendor that had pretty much every car I wanted from the mid 80's to early 90's but he was asking $5 per car. This other vendor had lots of things for $1 so I bought a pack of 15 DVDR's for $1 and 2 DV cassettes for $1 each and a baja bug hot wheels for $1. I only got the bug because I like beetles and I like the rims on it. A different vendor sold me the gold delorean for $1. I didn't include a picture but I also got a M blue nirvana shirt for $3 and it is the same ones they sell at target. A different vendor sold me 4 jack links beef jerkey for $1. I'll end this with my favorite finds. This guy had a table of men's dress and khaki pants. I bought a brand new pair of mark anthony dress pants for $2 and 2 pairs of croft and barrow pants for $2 each. Each one was new with the tags still on

Bad luck and good luck

Do you ever feel like other people have good luck in life? that's exactly how I feel about certain people when they get a job. I shouldn't compare myself to others but I do it a lot. I always wonder how someone can just suddenly and easily get a job they are not qualified to do even if they know someone. It's like in sitcoms when they just look for a job and get hired at the first place they go to. Anyways my dad says I'm lucky and he thinks I have good luck. I believe that I have good luck in certain aspects of life and bad luck in others. I'll start with bad luck. Obviously I can't get a job if my life depended on it, but it goes deeper then that. One time there was a new grocery store that opened near my house so I applied and I actually got a call for an interview. However that call came about 10 minutes after I left for school. Another time I had an interview at a store which I wont mention the name of. I was prepared to do the interview when I see the interviewee was my ex's mother. She must have thought I dumped her daughter(when it was the other way around) and I'm sure I was an instant NO as soon as she saw me. Anyways on to the good luck since I don't feel like dwelling on the bad stuff. One time at the swapmeet I was looking through a the da vinci code book when I found $10. I find money on the street fairly often. I find rare hot wheels at a store that is full of scalpers. I have never lost on a lotto scratcher ticket. I usually win another ticket or I win $2. I gotten lucky and found some good stuff for really cheap on ebay. I have other examples in my life but I'm sure you get the jist of this entry

I went to the vineland swapmeet on saturday

By saturday I mean 4 days ago. It was a pretty average haul this time. I got diary of a wimpy kid:the last straw for $1 which isn't bad considering it's a hardcover and it's in great condition. I didn't see any micro machines this time which was a pretty big bummer. I did get final fantasy 7 for $3 and dragon ball GT final bout for $1 and king of fighters 99 for $1. Then I got my usual hot wheels for 50 cents each. This time it was better since I found a redline from the mid 70's. Im not sure when my next visit to the swapmeet will be. It will most likely be in nov or dec so I got my fill of the swapmeet for now. Well not really but at least I'm happy with my purchases. In case anyone wonders why I don't buy much things, I hold back on buying stuff since I can easily spend $50 before I know it. For example I was close to buying wwe smackdown:here comes the pain for $3 and tony hawk's underground 2 for $3. I almost bought more hot wheels and a coconut for $1

My creative zen touch is officially outdated

I got a laptop with windows 7 back in may and It's been great but I didn't realize that it doesn't support my beloved creative zen touch mp3 player. I got the zen back in 2005 with my christmas money. I got it because it had better sound then an ipod and at the time I had a computer with windows ME. Also it had a battery that lasts 24 hours straight. At the time the ipod's only lasted 10 hours. I took it with me everywhere I went and I really liked the cool blue backlight. Since I don't have a pc with windows xp or vista and creative doesn't have the sofware on their website I can't add new songs to it. It is also slowly dying and it is really sad to think about it. The battery lasts half as long, sometimes pressing a button will cause it to shuffle all the songs. As for getting a new mp3 player, I have a LG optimus V(I think I got the name right) that I will buy a 16 GB micro sd card and use that phone as an mp3 player since I got the phone for cheap. I should mention I currently own 3 android phones and a flip phone. I'll get into details over my phones in another post.

Fiesta swapmeet at the pico rivera sports arena

In case your not familiar with the fiesta swapmeet. It was a swapmeet that used to be in the grassy area in front of the pico rivera sports arena. I stopped happening in 2003 or 2004 I think and I miss it a lot. I remember the last time I went my mom said It would still be there and it wasn't going anywhere. Well It must have went somewhere since only the grass is left. By the way it is off the 605 freeway near rose hills cemetery. I bought dazed and confused on vhs on a wim and a good fan for $5 and game informer magazines for $1. I miss it because there was a lot of normal people selling stuff it wasn't like the santa fe springs swapmeet where you see the same people selling the same stuff and they were pretty much a store. The fiesta swapmeet had more used/swapmeet stuff. I love swapmeets and I hope to find another that is like that. The vineland one is similar but it still has "stores". I'll try the paramount swapmeet one of these days. I haven't been there since 2004. In this picture the swapmeet used to be among the fence and grass

Asking friends for a job

Obviously I do have friends that have jobs and in case you been reading my blog I have asked them for an in. But it turns awkward just like scott pilgrim asking wallace wells in the picture from the books. Scott also asked stephen stills and kim pine for jobs(his friends and drummer and singer/guitarist from his band) I need to make connections with older guys that can give me an in. I think I worded that wrong but you know what I mean. I wish getting a job was like in tv shows where a friend knows where their hiring and you go with him and he knows the manager and you get hired on the spot

Retro fridays and the x-files

Since fridays feel more retro then thursdays I thought I post this entry about the x-files. Every sunday night (usually) at 9pm my dad would watch the x-files while I tried to go to sleep since I turned off the tv at 9. I remember hearing the theme song and it would creep me out especially since I didn't understand some of the stuff and thought it was real. Sometimes I couldn't sleep so I would watch it with my dad. The 2 episodes I remember the most was this one about a hillbilly family and incest and they lived in a rundown house with no electricity or water. It is an extremely disturbing episode to watch now much less when I was little. Another one I remember was the crossover episode with cops. Since I used to watch cops and america's most wanted every saturday night I assumed that episode was real because cops was real. Every time I went outside at night I would think that creature was lurking in the shadows. As I got older I realized that the show was not real but it still creeped me out especially the theme song. Recently channel LOGO decided to air the show. I been trying to watch all the episodes and I have becomed hooked. Sure the plot can be complicated at times but it is highly engrossing and well written and has great acting by mulder and scully. It doesn't scare me anymore because some of the effects and monsters are pretty cheesy but it is still a great horror show. Here is my tv guides I have with x-files covers. TV guides are another thing I will cover on another entry of retro fridays

Applying at pets'mart(again) and retro fridays

I applied at a different pet'smart(get it?  pets market) in a cashier position. Hopefully I get a call back. Since I had a account on petsmart.com and I applied recently, it went by a lot faster and smoother. I'm starting to hate these surveys in job applications. I don't want to place blame on them but they probably have held back qualified employees from working someplace just because they didn't get all the questions right. When I see of the surveys I feel like I have a much better chance of getting in the FBI or winning the lottery. On another not, anyone feel like throwback thursday is forced? thursdays don't feel nostalgic and the only thing I remember about them is that wwf smackdown used to be on thursdays but then it moved to fridays. MTV jams has gotten on the bandwagon but thursdays just don't feel "retro" like how fridays or saturdays do. For example, I went to a yard sale in may and they had a box full of pogs. I got 30 of them for free, which include mmpr, the california angels and jurassic park pogs. They also had a lot of early 90's hot wheels. The only way that day could have been more 90's was if they had 90's clothes and beepers and micro machines. I don't see 90's yard sales on throwback thursdays so I made retro friday my thing. It's been picked up by a few of my friends but it's not "trending" as the twitters would say.

Scott pilgrim vs the world

If anyone ever asks me, this is one of my favorite movies. In case your not familiar, it is based on the 6 scott pilgrim manga books which I'll discuss in another post. It's the story of a guy named scott pilgrim who dates a 17 year old chinese school girl named knives chau. Scott has dreams where he sees a girl with violet hair and roller blades. He sees her in real life and meets up with her at a party. Eventually they date and she comes with baggage in the from of 7 evil exes. Scott must defeat them all in order to continue dating ramona. I got a little too far and must mention he dumped knives for ramona. The movie is 2 hours and something long I believe yet it still feels short because of the pace. It feels like it's made by someone with ADD and everyone has a little intro note. I wish it was split into 2 movies instead of cramming everything into 1 film. If your a nerd or like video games or just want to see a cheesy love movie then watch it. It's really quotable and the best character is scott's gay roommate wallace wells "
Okay, presumeably, you may have just seen a dude's junk, and I'm very sorry for that... so is he."
The music is great especially if your into indie or garage rock. I'm not into either but I still like scott's band and envy's performance of black sheep. I also forgot to mention this movie stays fresh everytime you watch it due to the little things going on in the background. For example when knives first meets scott's band, watch where he leaves her coat

Applying at pets'mart

I was checking indeed.com and petsmart is hiring so I figure I apply. The application itself isn't so bad, there's about 30 survey questions and they go by fast. You do have to make an account on petsmar.com to apply. Unlike subway, you can apply to more then one store. I hope I get a call back since it is close to me and I'm an animal person especially with dogs. I don't know why but animals take a liking to me. My grandpa has rabbits and they follow me and let me pet them. My neighbor's dogs don't bark at me and they listen to me. Animals aren't scared around me

Applied at target mobile kiosk

I was doing my usual trolling(the original meaning) of CL job section and gigs and indeed.com when I saw an ad for wireless sales at a kiosk in target. In other words a phone salesmen inside the electronics section at target. Since it is at a target that is close by of course I applied. I hope I get a call back and in the meantime I'll fill out my application for the 99 cents store and savers. Even though the kiosk is inside the target it is considered an independent position. Meaning you don't get paid the same wages as target employees and you don't have to clean the electronics section or get reassigned to another area or be subjected to the same supervisor. This kiosk is inside the same target that recently rejected me so it would be really ironic if I got a job at the kiosk. Oh well it would be target's loss

CVS Photo lab

In case your wondering on my job applications progress, well I logged into college central network and applied at CVS in the photo lab. If you been to a CVS it is the person that's usually near the photo department and they wear a white lab coat. The questions they ask are tough but fair and it's not something you can finish in 5 mins. I don't know why they ask for retail experience since having printer and photography experience(which I have) would help a lot more. I think being tech savy and having a photography background gives me a leg up over someone that has only worked at sears or jcpenny's. I know which printer is the head printer(which lets you cancel and delete a print job). I know how to replace ink cartridges and how to fix a paper jam. I know the differences on photopaper between glossy and semi matte and fiber. I know how to develop and make prints with black and white film. I have spent lots of hours in a darkroom. Sadly CVS will just look at my experience and pass me over even though I have a really flexible schedule and the store is close to me so I can be there in 5 minutes. The lack of experience is what frustrates me the most in job hunting

Savers, Scott Pilgrim and Job applications I printed out

In case anyone has been following my blog, in an earlier post I mentioned how I was going to print out job applications at the library. Well I finally got around to it. I printed out some for the 99 cents store and savers. Now I just have to fill them out and turn them in. I look foward to going to savers since I keep hoping I will find unopened hot wheels from the early 90's in the toys section. One time I found late 90's matchbox cars so I have hope. I also look for ink for my printer since one time I found an unopened cartridge for $2.99. I love the clothes section and I keep an eye out for anything funky or weird or nirvana. The kids books section is great, it's where I find goosebumps books and I found a diary of a wimpy kid book in another visit. I got off track but at the library I also checked out all the scott pilgrim books they had. I wish there was more books in the series. I love scott and ramona's relationship and it kind of makes me want to look for a ramona of my own.  Nahhh I prefer being single

Getting rejected from a job

In case you been reading my blog, today I got an email from target saying "thank you for applying blah blah we regret to inform you we decided to go with someone else" I think it is nice of target to send you a rejection email. I got a rejection letter from knott's berry farm when I applied. The fastest rejection email I got was when I applied at tmobile then I went to check my email and there it was. Even though I'm used to rejection it still hurts because unlike getting rejected by a girl, it is your loss. Speaking of girls, I prefer to get rejected by a job then by a girl

ESPN saturday night baseball feels 90's

I didn't have cable growing up so I didn't get to watch ESPN and sunday night baseball. Now that I watch baseball every sunday I imagine it hasn't changed at all since the early 90's. Obviously ESPN has had different announcers over the years but the format feels like it is stuck in 1993 and I love ESPN for it. Am I the only one that feels this way towards sunday night baseball

I went to the vineland swapmeet again

It's fairly obvious I love that swapmeet. Anyways I usually go on a wednesday and today it was weird. Some vendors were switched around and others weren't there so it was strange. I got a stuffed plush peter rabbit and benjamin rabbit for $1 each.  I found 3 micro machine cars for $1 each so of course I bought them. Then I went crazy and bought 4 or 6 hot wheels cars from the mid 80's to the early 90's. I got them for 50 cents each so it's not like I was burning cash. I also got gran turismo psp for $3 and a brand new pair of mossimo boxers for $1. For some reason lots of vendors sell stuff from target for cheap. I'm not complaining since I like the band shirts from target and the boxers. It was cloudy but the swap meet was humid. Lots of people walking around on a concrete parking lot makes it feel steamy. Here's pictures so you can visualize what I got, although I forgot to take a picture of gran turismo psp

Retro friday

Since fridays are more retro then thursdays, here's a picture of a pack of micro machines I got when I was little. I still have 6 or 7 of the cars. I still play with them sometimes and recently I used them in my 3D art class for the final. I don't know why but mm's have gone up in value since the 90's. Look at the prices on ebay. I purchased 4 at the swapmeet for $1 each and that took me a lot of swap meet visits to even find them. Hopefully I'll find some tomorrow on my trip to the swapmeet. I want to have lots of micro machines, so far I have about 32
