90's things are coming back

Anyone notice that things from the 90's are slowly making a comeback? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are a good example with the shirts from target. Nintendo brought back the nintendo world championship while fred savage posted on twitter about attending. Samsung and apple came out with smart watches that you talk into them not unlike the ones on MMPR. RL Stine enjoys money so he re-released some of the original goosebumps books while writing more of them(some with old "friends"). Jurassic world had the trex from the 1st jurassic park movie, nirvana "reunited" at their hall of fame ceremony, Surge was re-released through amazon.

Pizza hut made a new commercial with david robinson that references the original stuffed crust, 2pac was at coachella while Eazy E was at a concert. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is "cool" again and there's new toys, The movie IT is getting a reboot, There is a tamagotchi game app, Gatorade brought back the like mike commercials then brought back the 90's labels for the bottles, shug knight and puff daddy are in jail, another bush and clinton are campaigning for presidency, jimmy fallon did a skit with most of the cast of saved by the bell, wayne and garth did a new wayne's world sketch at the snl 40th anniversary party, john stamos and fred savage have new tv shows. Micro machines are in stores again

I got a photography gig

Yes I mean gig and not job, anyways I have a friend that works in an office and they hire freelance photographers to do some shoots so he put in a word for me and got the assignment. I have to take some shots at night of a building in beverly hills and yes it is paid. I'm happy because it'll confirm my status as a photographer. Oh and I got a rejection letter 2 days after I applied from toys r us. Yeah it's there loss, I was willing to work 2 12 hour shifts on black friday but I guess they don't want that

Retro fridays and magic school bus

The magic school bus was an educational cartoon showed aimed at kids and it had a science leaning. The teacher was miss frizzle who was a saucy redhead and apparently her classroom only had about 7 kids. Oh and she had a lizzard named liz and a magic bus with eyes that had eyes and could transform. Each episode started off with something related to what was going to happen then the buys transform and presto they go to outerspace or the ocean or inside a chicken or inside arnold. I mostly remember the quotes every kid said "Come on you weasly whimps"

"At my old school"  "what are we going to do"  CAAARRRLOOOOSSSSSS"  "We have to take chances, get messy, make mistakes"

Now that I think about it, that bus was pretty short and there was only a few kids, maybe it was a special class and the adventures never really happened

Goosebumps the movie is coming out next month

I always wanted to see a goosebumps movie when I was little and now it's coming out pretty soon. It will be weird to see grown men with little kids but hey it's based on the 90's books and it appeals to all ages. Anyways the trailer is here and it's nice to see some familar faces. I saw slappy, the gnomes, abdominal snowman of pasadena, the praying mantis from a shocker on shock street, the wolfwere from the wolfwere of fever swamp, the mummy from the mummy walks and others I didn't really pay attention to.

There's so much potential for villans like the dogs from the barking ghost or the beasts from the easts or the egg monsters from mars or those slug thing in monster blood 4 or the headless ghost or the horrors from one day at horrorland or the 50's kids from a haunted school or the dead house. Ok I went a little overboard but I am looking forward to this mainly because of jack black

2 Broke Girls is my new favorite show

I started watching it 2 days ago I think when it was randomly on tbs, I instantly got hooked and no it's not because of max's cleavage. I love how buddy buddy max and caroline are. I like max's snarky "I don't care" darlene conner like attitude and her witty comebacks. There is sooo much innuendo in this show and most of it is by max and sometimes it's pretty obvious like in this episode "you need 9 inches". I love chestnut the horse and he gives the show a little something different especially when you can see him lounging around in the yard and when the door is open and he sticks his head in the apartment.

Anyways today I ended up watching the first 8 episodes of season 1 in order because I thought eh I'll give it a chance and now I can't stop watching it. It's on 3 times a day on tbs. Oh I know it was on CBS but I never knew what time and I never bothered to search the guide for it. This show makes me want to become a waiter but I can't be as witty as max because she should have been fired a long time ago. Idk how she gets away with saying some of those things to her customers.

That little counter thing at the end just seems to go up or down at random numbers with no thought given to what happened in the episode

Some of my driving pet peeves

Yes I already posted a similar entry last year but this one is more detailed. The one I hate the most is people that go 35mph+ in the alley behind my house especially during the morning/afternoon when kids are playing and it's even worse since a lot of the cars are drivien by moms with a kid in a child seat. I live close to a daycare so it makes me mad that so many moms go 40 mph and endanger other kids lives and their own kids(it's a narrow alley and they pley in it) and don't even realize it.

Another one is people that switch lanes when they are pulling up to a red light since the other one has less cars but they go 15 to 10 mph under the speed limit so what was the point of going to the lane with less cars if they were just going to drive like a paranoid drug dealer.

It also irks me when people go fast through a busy parking lot during a busy time of the day. For example I have seen people go 35mph+ at the parking lot of target during afternoon hours on a sunday where there are lots of people walking around. It's always a slow car too like a camry

It's amazing how much technology has changed

For example, in the mid 2000's I wanted a compaq pocket pc since it was well....a pocket pc and now I have a phone that blows it away. It's the same with tablets, back then they were expensive and for drawing or clunky and $500. Nowadays I got my galaxy tab 3 lite for under $50. I would have never imagined I'd own a tablet let alone soon. Of course this is all because of technology decreasing with price. I don't remember the law but there is a term for it.

The newest episode of girl meets world was really touching (again)

Ok It starts off with riley feeling like topanga and corey are perfect superheroes while all she does is make her bed(which she doesn't really do anyways). So then the show breaks the 4th wall and riley is giong to tell maya a story about her parents and there is a paraphrased quote "It's not like everything they did was recorded" that being a jab at boy meets world. Anyways she tells the story in such great detail (no time travel or dreams or anything weird) that riley and maya are actually there in a scene from season 1 of boy meets world(the one where topanga comes over corey's house and she puts lipstick on her face).

Thanks to some CGI, riley realizes that she is both her parents and maya just thinks young corey is cute. Also maya loves the meditation topanga does, meanwhile riley quotes her young future mom with "I don't think I'm weird, I'm unique". So we end up in the classroom where riley has a presentation(just like how young corey and topanga were working on in the flashback) and she does some young topanga moves and busts out young corey's red phillies hat and puts it on and they hug and she realizes she's her own person but her parents are also on her side.

This episode tugged on the boy meets world nostalgia while bringing it into the 21st century. I really hope there's another episode in this style where the main characters go into a boy meets world episode in a ebenezeer scrouge type of way. It was great to see what happened to corey's hat and seeing young corey and topanga again in a manner that fits within the show

I thought about taking an unpaid internship far away

I'm getting pretty desperate job hunting so I figured I need to make a drastic change by which I mean apply for unpaid internships. However here is the negative like all things in life. A lot of photography/photoshop internships that fit my skills(entry level position) are located in downtown LA. This is far for me to even drive let alone take a bus. Ironically there is a bus that goes by the heart of downtown and it passes close to my house. So I could pay $2.20 to get there and back but and this is a big BUT(heh) it takes 2.5 hours to get there and that is a happy estimate by the bus schedule. Factor in traffic and that the bus doesn't go on the freeway and it's more like 3 to 3.5 hours. That is a long time to spend on a bus each day. I could take a bus and a train but that would be more exppppensive.

I do have some money saved for school but this is where the desperation would be strong. Obviously I couldn't go to school because I would be spending my money on food and fare and I wouldn't have time. I would be gambling on building a portfolio that may or may not get me hired. Gah I just wish someone close by would hire me and make my life a lot easier.

I'm starting to get a lot of grey hairs due to the stress, I have to pluck them every day and I'm considering getting just for men even though I am in my 20's. Anyways taking an internship in downtown LA would be high risk and medium reward. In the meantime I will apply at a gonzales northgate market and smart & final and round 1. But I'll do all this after I finish my essay for english class.

Ironically I do like to write just not an essay, It exposes my poor grammar skills and lack of understanding of thesis statments and the english language(it's my 2nd language). I hope to finish them tomorrow or friday because I need to apply, I can't just split myself into 2 but I can pay someone to apply at stores for me. Hm.......now    there's an idea. I didn't mean to make this blog entry so long but I just couldn't stop writing. Ironically this entry is longer then my essay

Now I remember why I always hated school

Mainly because of math classes(pre algebra is when I stopped understanding) but english class too. As ironic as it is that I love to write and have my own blog, I have always done badly in english classes. Mainly because of my bad grammar and difficulty grasping the english language(english is my 2nd language)  and I just can't understand things like adverbs, pro nouns, adjectives and thesis statements. I had to redo an intro paragraph and body paragraph and I just can not do this

Your thesis should be the last sentence of your intro and  A clear thesis statement specifically  states your current food experiences and your plan for a new food experience.

I thought that's what I did but I am horrible at writing an essay so I need major help and I just realized why it's bad to have such few friends as the ones I have aren't great with editing english papers and I'm honestly considering dropping out of school for good as I can't even do this paper correctly

Quick update on me

I get daily emails from snagajob about locations near me that are hiring so I let them build up the past 4 days and today I went on a spree. I looked through every job close by I might be qualified for and saved the jobs I was going to apply at. Just right now I applied at: chuck e cheese, bed bath and beyond(2 different positions) and petco. Those applications went quick and there was no personality survey, well there is one for petco but it goes by fast also you need an account to apply at petco.

As always I hope I get a call back from any of these places but in the mean time I will apply at: 2 buffalo wild wings locations, burlington and marshall's. I will also take a peek at the puente hills mall job section and try to scrap a plan to visit a few stores on a trip there. Ok I'm back from peeking(that came out wrong) and the round 1 website actually lets you apply online so I will do that tomorrow as I tuckered out right now. Also there's few changes in the job listings as many of them have a start date of july or august and it is the middle of September

Tomorrow I am going to work on an essay and apply at round 1 and turn in some cans to recycle for $ and possibly go to the 99 cents store to get a studio art mini journal for drawings(I'm a horrible drawer though)

Hopefully things turn out for the best life wise and job hunt wise after all, life's what you make it so let's make it rock(hopefully someone get's where that is from)

The latest episode of girl meets world is incredibly touching

It starts off with the kids in corey's class taking a career aptitude test which determined that farkle is destined to be ruler of the world(not making this up) so he get's fake married to maya and riley for no reason. However the school guidance counselor interrupts corey's class to talk to farkle and as we all know this is never good. She talks to him privately then it cuts to corey and topanga's house. They are chatting with stewart minkus(farkle's dad) and we find out his mom is none other then a terminator. Yes his mom is kristanna loken and she had a minor role as shawn's gf in few episodes of boy meets world. It gets even stranger because shawn started dating topanga so corey date's kristanna to get even and it was all a ruse by shawn and topanga.

Got that? ok he's still scared of her because she was a tough girl in those few episodes of boy meets world and now I got off track and should continue with the main plot. Farkle makes the announcement to his friends and parents that he might have aspergers which maya and riley deny and just say he's quirky. Everyone is ok with it though and Smackle(not her real name) later meets up with the gang and if you pay attention then you'll notice she has aspergers. Anyways farkle and smackle go outside(to the suggestion of maya and riley who see a potential couple) where he busts that bombshell on her and she's okay with it, and she would never leave so farkle says "thank you for liking whatever I am" here's where it gets sweet, he holds her hand and they share a moment of young love(no they don't kiss).

Smackle observes farkle at his school for plot device and the guidance counselor again takes him aside where it turns out he doesn't have aspergers so he makes an announcement in class. Smackle wanted him to go to her school so she's disappointed but happy for him at his current school. The girls are sitting on the window couch when it is revealed that smackle has aspergers and she is sad that farkle might not like her anymore now that he doesn't have aspergers. He busts in and says he already knows about her aspergers and he wants to show her the same amount of understand she showed him and they hug awkwardly.

There was more after but this was a great heartwarming episode and I loved the running gag where lucas says to smackle and she says to stop hitting on her. The preview for the next episode has me looking forward to it. Maya and riley somehow travel back to when corey and topanga were little kids(via some editing from a bmw episode)

Things from the 90's are coming back at target

First off I was at target the other day looking through the minecraft books and since they keep them in the children's book section I saw something that drew my eye, I did 5 take just to be extra sure. I saw brand new goosebumps books with the 90's look. I know that the old goosebumps books are remastered with new covers but this was like as if someone time traveled to 1995 and brought the books here, Yes you can take off the target sticker, Sadly the back of the book and back cover break the 1995 illusion but you can still pretend you got it in 1995.

Earlier today I decided for no reason at all, to walk through the stawars toy section when I saw something that made me stop and look again, boxes of brand new micro machines starwars. Micro machines stopped being made in the early 00's so to see these again new at target blew my mind. I had to hold them to make sure this was real and it was as real as the 2004 red sox. They were $19.99 each so I quickly put them back also they seem a lot more plastic then what I remember.

To give you an idea of how I felt, it would be like if the super nintendo was sold again as brand new or if mattel brought back hot wheels from the early 90's or if vhs movies were in the shelves again

Retro fridays and myspace

It might seem too early to consider myspace retro but it's my blog and it has changed. Myspace is still around but changed around 2011 to a flash based layout so it's not the same site it once was. I made my profile in 2004 and was around for the "prime" of myspace. It was like facebook but without your parents or relatives being your friends. You could customize your background which everyone seem to use the same confusing picture. You could make a 5 or 6 playlist that autoplays when someone visits your profile so they are assaulted by your love of nickleback

There was scene kids which pretty much only talked to other scene kids and acted like they were better then everyone else all while posting bulletins telling you to add other scene kids. People used to make a big deal out of your top 8 and I probably lost some friends because of it. "LOL I'm not your top 1?" "then why are we friends anyways"

I miss the simpler time when it wasn't all encompassing, myspace wasn't for adults but they could use it too. I loved the classifieds and it's how I met some current friends. I'll never forget logging in and seeing the new message or new friend request notification. Sadly the old site only exists in picture form but it was fun while it lasted

Today is sept 11

I vividly remember waking up and wondering why there was a skyscraper in new york that was on fire. I also remember there was this bearded man and I wondered what he had to do it. I didn't know what the world trade center was or who osama bin ladan or al quida was(they don't deserve proper spelling) or why they did it. I was just watching and watching. My 1st ever airplane flight was earlier that summer in july and I returned in late august so I can remember a time when airports were more lax.

I remember there was nothing on but news for the next few days on all the channels. The only thing that broke the streak was wwe smackdown(I didn't have cable and I couldn't just stream videos like nowadays), I kept thinking survivors would be founds months after the attacks but there wasn't any. I really miss the twin towers and it's a sad sight in home alone 2, I wish I could somehow stand on the observation deck as it's one of the things I hope to accomplish(see the sights of new york) but that will have to be left blank

Also yes terrorists did it and not the government unless you like to believe what a sketchy person on a sketchy site tells you (all while having no engineering background).

It is hotter here then in arlington texas

Why arlington? well it's the hottest MLB stadium second only to landshark stadium(the marlin's old stadium) and it's hot because it's an outdoor stadium in texas in a summer sport. There is a current heatwave that has temps in the 100s throughout most of southern california. I checked the weather and it is hotter here (east whittier) then rangers ballpark which wouldn't be so bad if the houses had central air. A lot of houses do not have central air or heating including mine. Luckily I do have a window ac so I am able to type this without melting but I can't leave it on all day or night. El Nino is returning and it's casuing this heatwave but this also means more needed rain in the winter

I have been gone from facebook for 7 months

That is a long time and almost long enough to have a baby although I was born at 7 months old and severly underweight which explains my k.cobain like build. Anyways the main reason why I went on hiatus from fb is my mom making me feel like a loser. I'm sure other people have a parent who compares you to your cousins and keeps using them as a measuring stick meanwhile they complain about you. Well my mom is exactly like that but worse. She's like louis from malcom in the middle mixed with benny from the george lopez show and a little bit of mrs. skinner from the simpsons. My mom is stuck in 1992 and assumes that jobs are just falling from the sky so you can easily apply in person and get a call back that same day and when you interview, there's just 2 other candidates so you can know if you got the job or not that same visit.

I have explained lots of times that things don't work that way anymore and that job applicatiions are different too. Lots of them are online and have a personality survey to fill out. You don't just fill out your information and your done. My mom doesn't understand those for profit schools like devry or ITTech or trade colleges like american career college  and how you don't get a dipolma. I explained how they work lots of times and how the paper you get isn't worth much but she just compares me to my cousin who went to ADC for 6 months.

Anyways my mom just loves to make up bad and untrue things about me to her sisters and her family so I look and feel like well a loser but at this point it might as well be true. I took the break from fb so I could focus on getting a job although so far that isn't panning out and I also got bummed out by how many of my fb friends had jobs and I didn't.

To sum up this post,my mom makes me feel like a loser so I took a break from facebook

I find it ironic how nirvana's MTV VMA performance is now considered tame

what with britney spears kissing madonna(whose like a virgin performance is also tame nowadays) and miley cyrus dancing last year and whatever else she did this year. Even christina aguilera in her drrtty girl look is pretty edgy. Nirvana wanted(well k.cobain did) to play the song rape me at the VMAs in 1993 but MTV said no as it might be too "edgy". Well nirvana played the start of it then switched to another song and it was a troll move. How tame is that? Also MTV pushes itself as edgy programming for teens so I find it yummy how they can hold back

Update on me

I have my national career day interview at chipotle on wednesday(I assume they are mass hiring) and I hope it's one on one interviews so I can let the employees get to know me and my awesome personality. I applied for a temp jr writer position in la puente and I hope I really do get it. It would be writing descriptions for pop culture and video games. Which I already have since I wrote 2 articles for therichest.com back in feb. Also my blog is rooted in pop culture and video games(retro fridays)

Like always I hope I get a call back and I also applied as a wireless sales consultant at 2 targets. Those are the people that work in the cell phone kiosk in the electronics section at target so I really hope I get an interview from either of these places. If not, well I have chipotle on wednesday to plead my heart out. In the mean time yes I am getting sick of job hunting, I just want it to be over but no, fate likes to laugh at me

Retro saturdays and arthur

Me and my home slice arthur go way back. Since I could remember I used to watch arthur after school and during summer in the afternoon. I loved the theme song and the "and now a word from childern like you" and DW being annoying. I also loved arthur's A-A-R-D-V-A-R-K rap and pal getting sick from the old halloween candy. Yes I do know that it's still on but it isn't the same. Arthur has a different voice actor that sounds off and pal and kate can talk to each other. However the theme song is the same so for those few seconds I'm in my childhood "and I say hey"

Retro saturdays and zoom

"Come on and zoom, come on and zoom zooma zooma zoom" Zoom was a kids show on    pbs where a group of kids just did random things. Besides the catchy theme song, there was improv comedy, cooking, ubi dubi language, comedy skits and various games like relay races. Looking back on it with hindsight, the show was alright but I have fond memories of the theme song and certain actors like keiko and carlos and zoe. Everyday after school I would tune into zoom. Who could forget the email or zmaìl jingle

Retro fridays and reading rainbow

I grew up without cable but I didn't need it thanks to PBS and all it's wonderful childern's programming. Reading rainbow like it's name suggests, is a show about animals. Ok I keed, it is about books. Lavar burton hosts and I don't remember much of the show. Kids would talk about their favorite books and there was book suggestions and a few pages were read. I mostly remember the theme song(take a look it's a in a book) and the book that would fly around like a butterfly

Retro fridays and banjo kazooie

For those that don't somehow know, banjo kazooie was a platformer for the nintendo 64 and it was released in 1998. This game is what I think of when I see 1998. I remember playing it at best buy and sears frequently and there was nothing more I wanted then BK. I got the june 1998 issue of nintendo power in the mail{I had a subscription} and that just made me want the game more. Keebler had a contest where if you find a gold puzzle piece in a package of cookies then you win an n64 and BK. Obviously I had many day dreams about winning

The game itself is pretty good. Now it's pretty dated gameplay wise but at the time it was a huge game that appealed to me because of it's characters and worlds. I have a soft spot for the 1st level(small mountain) and the beach level and the snow level and the swamp level. I never get tired of exploring those levels and every time I play it's like I'm in 1998 again with a bright outlook. I do have BK on my wii so hmmm......

Anyone notice that nelson on the simpsons is less of a bully

If you haven't watched a simpsons episode in a long time it will surprise you to find out that nelson is a wuss now. He constantly cries for his dad and makes jokes about it. It's sad to see him like this instead of the bully he was in the first couple of seasons. I know bullies have pretty much become extinct but I didn't think the longest running bully would end up an emotional mess

You never know when something is gone

Throughout my short life I have learned not to take anything for granted. You can't count on certain things to always be there. You have to make the most of your time because you never know when that last time will be. I'm talking about stores but it can also apply to people. For example there was once an arcade close to where I lived near nickle nickle. The
Last time I went was in 2005 but I always kept brushing off plans to return. Well one day the  place was boarded up and closed. I was too late, there was no more going to the arcades. I was lucky enough to take a picture before it was demolished then rebuilt into a buffalo wild wings.

I vividly remember in 2005,comparing shirts with a classmate named jennifer unzueta. We made plans to hang out one day but guess what?    that day never came, she died in a car accident(she wasn't driving) in 2007 and just like that she was gone.

So make the most of life, you never know when the last time you'll see a person or the last time you'll be inside a store(RIP Kmart and KB Toys)

To continue on the topic about depression

Lots of times I have heard "omg I can't go to the concert I'm so depressed" and it frustrates me. because depression is no joking matter. It is a legitmate medical condition that you can't just "man up" and snap out of it. Sure there are moments when you don't feel sad but you know that you still have depression.

Anyways I have had it as far back as freshman year in high school. It was all about a girl too who ended up telling on me then that lead to me going to see a therapist(not at school) for the rest of the school year. It came roaring back a few years later and now being unemployed doesn't help matters. Yes not having a job holds me back, if I had a job then I wouldn't have as much stress or anxiety or self doubt about myself. This doesn't mean that I'm mentally unstable or irrational or throw pity parties all the time.

I and most other people can have productive lives with depression
