Retro saturdays and the sandlot

The sandlot is a timeless classic that I didn't realize it was released in the 90's until not that long ago because the sandlot seems like it was released in the 80's or that it just showed up and you never really care about when it came out, only that it came into your life. The sandlot is a movie about kids playing baseball on a sandlot field in the neighborhood and it is set in the 50's during the summer. It's a light coming of age movie topped with nostalgia of a boy named scotty smalls aka smalls moving into a new neighborhood then slowly getting accepted by the neighbor boys because as a kid you always wanted to be liked by a group of kids. The play baseball of course and had a rivalry with some rich kids and go to the pool and they all have a crush on the older neighbor girl wendy pferrcorn. They go to the carnival on the 4th of july and do chew and throw up, it's all in good fun especially when the chubby kid says the infamous line "you're killing me smalls"

The last main plot point is when the gang runs out of baseballs so smalls uses his dad's signed babe ruth card and he hits a home run into the scary neighbor's yard with a huge dog, now they somehow have to get it back. Of course it would be easier to ask and james earl jones(the neighbor) even mentions that and he gives smalls a ball signed by the '27 yankees. The movie ends with smalls in the announcer's booth and benny the jet rodriguez playing for the dodgers as he steals home. Maybe the fact that it's on a lot every weekend or that it has the summer feel but the sandlot brings me to a simpler time in my childhood
